ARAM - If you get a S grade on a character you don't have, why no chest?

Playing an ARAM today Girlfriend got S on Leblanc

She doesn't have Leblanc...

But shouldn't she get a chest with a random skin shard or something? Chests aren't character specific...why are the characters chest specific?

you cannot get S grades on champions you do not own.

But I can get a skin shard for a champ I don't own either...LOGIC ANYONE?

I didn't design the system, but I would guess that it's because you can only earn one chest with a certain champion in a month. You'd have to add in a lot more backend architecture to track that, which is generally more trouble than it's worth since getting an S on a champion you don't own is so rare.
