@Riot, What is Nami's Niche in League?
I've been playing/maining
since I've been playing league at the tail end of S3, and I love the champ, but I can't help but feel like she really doesn't do anything different from the other support champions as of late. I'm aware she's not in a bad spot in the current meta. As of the time of this post she's sitting on a 51.62% Win rate at a 6.8% play rate on Champion.gg, 49.87% Win Rate and 8.68% play rate on na.op.gg. What this is about is what Nami brings to the table. We can all agree that she's one of the tougher to play supports. She's very Mana hungry, squishy, with no shields nor escapes it leaves her very vulnerable to ganks. She also can't take advantage of leads as well as other supports like
or
due to poor scaling, and she does even worse when behind because she lacks the tools to come back from behind like the way
can. On top of all of this, her kit is unreliable. Her Q (the bubble), it already tough to land, even in the hands of a Nami main, and gets even tougher to land when your opponents start buying
. Yes I'm aware that other champs get shut down by items all the time, but shut down a fed
you drop 2900 gold to get a
or 2350 for
to stop a
and it's a detour from your normal itemization. Everyone builds boots. For 300 gold Nami's Q becomes a lot less effective/harder to land.
Her Ebb and Flow (W) is a great trading tool, but it's also mana expensive. To balance the fact that it's both a poke and a heal it's not fantastic as either. To make it worth the mana cost, you have to position yourself to get both a heal and a poke bounce just to make it mana efficient. In team fights her (W) still loses potency with bounces unless you building 200 AP then you break even and if you're building AP on Nami Support you're missing out on support items. Her Tidecaller's Blessing (E) is great for procing her passive and to give her ADCs the on-hit slow, but again, it seems like they want you to build AP when as a support you probably shouldn't (Or pick
support).
Her Ult Tidal Wave got buffed back on 5.16, making it seem like a engage tool as well; but again, it's very slow and telegraphed. I can't tell you how many times I've used this ability and my opponents were able to avoid it just by walking somewhere else. The
strikes again.
So what I'm asking you good gentlefolks at Riot is, why pick Nami over any other support? At the moment, it feels like I have to work harder to get an unreliable
with worse AP scaling. I'm not asking for buffs, I'm just asking for some clarity as to what players should be doing with
and her role in league. Is she the Jill-of-all-trades support? then why is not only the mistress of none, but also hard to play? is she a lane bully? Then why pick her over the other lane bully supports? For as hard you have to work to get her to be effective, you don't get rewarded with game-changing plays like a
nor do you get hard carrying potential like other high skill cap champs like
or
? ...is she an Angry
? A Less effective
?
Her lore states that before she got the title Tide Caller that she battled against 'untold terrors', Defeated a Kraken, and survived an incident of being eaten by the Megaladon.... so why does she fall off so hard in the lane? shouldn't that suggest she can be effective at all stages of the game or...at least not be so squishy?
DR; TL: Riot plz, why pick
over
? Why is she called the Tidecaller but is so bad at controlling the Tide of the game?
