To whoever in riot's balance team looked at ekko and thought "let him jungle"

Fawksea··58 votes·5,232 views

Thank you so god damn much, i used to main ekko jungle and it was the most fun i've had, until tank ekko appeared and ruined everything, couldn't jungle with him anymore unless i had a ton of attack speed in my runes, making ekko's damage output early to champions just laughable, with this one single buff im able to enjoy ekko jungle and again, thank you.

About god damned **EKKO ** no less

Remlap12238 votes

Its a real sad state of affairs when EKKO is considered to be one of the more balanced and non frustrating champs to play against.

SociopathFriend2 votes

Well, about 80% of the champions don't really get bitched about all that much.

Remlap12231 votes

Nah I'd say you got that backwards. Here 80% of the champs get bitched about but it cycles. I'm sure everyone remembers release EKKO and his 4 slows and free ultimate.

but he complained about tank ekko.

Glad you're enjoying the return of jungle Time Kid.

I was going to come in here and take full credit, but since this is a compliment, it was TheEntropist. (he's a guy on the playtest team who plays a lot of Ekko. He also hates Jinx tho so feel free to call him a meanie like he deserves.)

ForeverLaxx1 votes

It's too bad you still won't let Ekko be anything but AP, or an AP Bruiser at absolute best. Who cares if he can jungle again when you can't build him any different.

Malicious Metal2 votes

Because Tank Ekko isn't healthy.

ForeverLaxx1 votes

So you prefer that Riot remove a playstyle instead of working to make adequate tradeoffs for divergent builds to promote real diversity and choice.

iamthegoatofwar2 votes

Jinxy is morello still on riot's pay roll? Still working for yall?

Malicious Metal1 votes

Afaik he is still at Riot but not on league of Legends anymore. Him, Ryze and Tryndamere work on a new project iirc.

iamthegoatofwar1 votes

Well if I understand the info I got earlier he stopped working in their balancing department late season 3/early season 4. We've been here 4 years since he's made any balance type choices...and we could use his wisdom now more than ever.

ekko was just so much fun before tank became known. No one played him and he was op as sht. I still miss it. 40 second ult cooldown at level 6 [zombie-nunu-tears]

Cost no mana either.

Personally, i don't understand why this has to be a decision on riot's part. Why can't every champion jungle with their own quarks that they bring to a role which involves a lot of map movement?

I don't see why it's necessary to put such punishing mechanics and numbers on the jungle so champions who don't get the riot seal of approval to go into the jungle.

NineTailedMystic3 votes

Because some champions just have unfair jungling patterns like Tank Ekko of old, or current Camille.

deadlychuck2 votes

What about it makes them "unfair" and not just their strength as a jungler?

How is it any more "unfair" than the current system of hard locking a substantial number of champions out of the jungle?

Nyarlathοtep2 votes

Well it depends on the kit of the champ. Camilie for example is difficult to stay healthy because of her ulti that disables any form of escapes.

deadlychuck3 votes

You don't seem to understand the context.

Camille isn't an "unfair" jungler because her ult effectively disables all escape, at best you could claim she's an unfair champion, but if such a case were to be made, that still doesn't explain how that makes her unfair in the context of jungling.

DeathBurst1 votes

Well, that was kinda implied. The context of Jungling is GANKS. If you don't understand why a Camille jumping into your lane from 1100 range away from Fog of War and ulting you and you can't do anything about it is unfair, I can't say much more to explain.

Camille ulting you in lane is a totally different story. If she just does it straight out of the blue, you should be able to beat her / displace her / delay her until it fades out. It's a 1v1, you versus her, and you can see her coming.

deadlychuck1 votes

So what you're saying is that Camille is actually just an unfair champion, when she gets a gank?

Because her being a laner or jungler changes nothing about that situation.

Fishing Boat1 votes

She just has a completely successful gank every time her ult is off cd as long as she's not incompetent or gets burst down or counterganked. No other jungler can guarantee that you're stuck away from your turret with a point and click for 4+ seconds

deadlychuck1 votes

Ok and, if the player isn't incompetent or denied, so do Malphite LeeSin Rengar Warwick just to show that this isn't something unique to camille in any regard.

Because then alistar would beat the crap out of every lane since he'd be able to clear properly and is the best ganker imaginable

deadlychuck1 votes

Alistar brings CC into a gank, but trades damage and mobility (for the sake of engagement time and angle of approach).

I mean they seem to have no problem with, Rammus as a jungler.

SociopathFriend2 votes

Slight difference, Rammus CC's you and you basically stay still, Ali CC's you and will throw you right out from under your turret to the enemy.

statelesskiller2 votes

and can tank as many tower shots as needed to make sure your dead

Some champs just don't have the tools for ganking and shouldn't be able to jgl. I personally wouldn't want to encourage Garen jgl even if his q or e did bonus damage to monsters.

deadlychuck1 votes

This has nothing to do with encouraging poor jungle picks. This is purely about not explicitly punishing them for poor jungle picks.

Riot is only shooting themselves in the foot if they decide to start actively punishing choices that they don't approve.

I disagree. Some champs just aren't designed for jgl - and that's ok. They shouldn't have buffs to make them an option, as some just shouldn't be jglers

deadlychuck1 votes

I agree, they shouldn't have buffs to make them an option.

They should have a basic degree of natural jungling competency, and that should be the extent of their jungling power. What shouldn't be going on, is riot picking favorites for who gets this extra jungling power and balancing the jungle to bias the particular design of champion that they want to be played in it.

There's nothing that makes a lane inherently bias towards what kind of champions would be successful in it, beyond a few unique cases like illaoi in the mid lane. I don't think jungle should be getting a different design philosophy attached to it.

It's not riot being biased. It's purely design. You can't have an all in one champ for every / most champs. Abilities would just get so similar and there would be less variation in the game imo, even if there were more jgl options. Some champs just don't have the tools to gank, and as I said, that's ok. Some jgl champs aren't good laners either. It's just how the game is designed, and that is more than ok with 130+ champs in the game

I agree. Here's the thing, I'm really not concerned with the ganking capabilities of junglers. That's what differentiates between them. What i think is complete bullshit and unacceptable, is riot designing the actual jungle camps with numbers and in ways, that make it nearly impossible to clear unless that champion is given explicit permission by riot.

I don't want every champion to be good as a jungler, i just want every champion to have the ability to jungle. Viability be fucking damned.

At this point I would just be repeating myself if I replied again so I will say it just one more time simply. Some champs aren't designed to be jglers period. Have a good day.

Provengreil1 votes

This. How would soraka, ashe, xerath, or sona jungle effectively? The only way to really make it work is nerf the jungle until others that CAN jungle effectively clear the whole thing in seconds at full health (looking at yi, shyvana, etc) and are then ganking while these are still clearing. This is assuming that same enemy jungler doesn't take the free kills and farm right out of their jungles. Some champions have no business whatsoever in jungle.

IcyPepper3 votes

Lane Ekko was boring.

At least he's somewhat unique as a jungler, and fun!

But thank god Tank Ekko, the monstrosity of that patch, is dead.

I've been trying this off and on for a few seasons and it wasn't quite there after the rework but if his passive proc'd on jungle monsters i think he'd make it, idk why it doesn't work on minions or monsters imo like ekko's

There is a serious deficiency in good AP junglers, right now.
