Update Galio

Dobulas··2 votes·454 views

His kit is really fun and if tweaked just a little could make him viable but not over-powering he needs more early game mana, you can only cast like 4 abilities. There's other stuff also. I wish he was a little more viable, but in an AD meta, it's kinda tough. Also, why is he melee?

Hi I literally just made a guide earlier today on him.

http://www.lolking.net/guides/384255

I've played him for over 300 Ranked games across four seasons (including this one) three of which (including this one) have been in Platinum and I'm the highest rated dedicated Galio main on these forums.

Here let me shed some light for you:

-Mana gating balances him; if he had more mana he'd be broken because he would have literally 0 weaknesses in lane

-If you only get 4 abilities off you can't manage your mana, period

-He is stronger this season than any others

-He's good versus a lot of ADs; the only exception is Yasuo. He counters Talon who is super strong right now. Zed is skill based slightly leaning towards Zed.

-If he wasn't Melee he'd also be broken

-He doesn't need an update, people just need to stop having misconceptions.

While I'm here, any other questions?

If he doesn't need an update then what does he need, a buff? Obviously there are reasons he's not being played.

He did get buffs this season they're just not noticed, also he doesn't need anything.

He's not played for multiple reasons:

-He's not "as fun" as a lot of others just in playstyle. He's not alone in that regards; I like Sej a lot too but she's kinda similar.

-He has a VERY different playstyle than most of the roster and is incredibly unique. Think about Champions like Viktor, and, even better example, Heimerdinger. Not weak, but unique-- especially Heimerdinger.

-Because of those first two reasons, a lot of misconceptions float around

-He has been buffed but it's been indirect buffs. RoA changes, new Masteries are super nice to him comparatively to other Champions, Talon's strong at the moment and he counters him, the list goes on but none of them were directly aimed at him so he went unnoticed

-He's not outright broken and people like to play that

So what you get is a Champion not noticed much, that has a playstyle most don't have, that is more than fine and not just decent but actually good without being broken existing.

He does actually see pro play from time to time and he is picked; they're aware to not ignore him.

He needs an update, he is painfully old in execution, and not in a good, Annie type way, yes, he can be played well, but that doesn't mean that his Q is either uncounterable, or useless, his shield is interestingly in mechanics, but poorly brought out, his movement ability STOPS MOVEMENT, and his ult is great.

He needs a shen level rework, let hime keep his shield and ult, the rest needs to be made intuitive or well designed, because right now he sits on a hodgepodge of halfbaked ideas, and as someone with 300+ games you have to have seen this.

What are you even talking about.

His W has a ton of versatility and can be used a lot of different ways (absorbing burst, healing through DoT/minion aggro, used on a carry or another initiator/tank, used on yourself to increase damage output), so yes it is well brought out. His movement ability barely stops his movement at all in the slightest; the cast animation is super quick. His Q is just a good ability.

He's not a "hodgepodge" at all; he's a good Champion. He's just really different from a lot so he's not popular.

Eh, I do see the argument about his design honestly. Galio's W is far too strong on it's own and his E is really weak to compensate, which just isn't very good design. He doesn't need a full rework by any means, but his design is really dated and he could use a few changes to those two abilities.

Yes and no.

His W is really really strong and his E is pretty eh, yes.

His W is core to how he functions though and a shift in power can make him feel shitty in actual teamfight commitment.

He's not the only Champion with one "meh" ability aimed at utility. Cass mainly focuses on Q/E and has a W to help her here and there and his E in some ways is sort of similar. There's a lot of others that can be debated.

If you wanted to adjust his kit like this, you'd have to give him a new E altogether, and then nerf his W, while still making him a good AP initiator. And I mean, his current E is weak yeah but I'm not sure if removing it is quite the answer either.

You have a hard time reading don't you? I said it wasn't well done, not that it wasn't useful , it is, but it's whole concept is counter-intuitive to the roles he fills, ergo, not well executed. It still stops him, and has marginal benefits at it's most badass. His Q is hit or miss, Anivia does Galio's Q better.

Okay "not hodgepodge" So, what exactly are some reliable skillchains? Oh, he is entirely situational? It's almost like his skills have no relation to one another, therefore a hodgepodge. Good or otherwise, hejust isn't up to standard in this evolving game, that's why people don't play him, not because he is "different," because he isn't, he shares a Q with Anivia, as previously stated, a W that shields is literally Riot beta template, a move fast skill for an E, innovative mo one has that, a better nunu ult and rammus' passive, what exactly are you calling different here?

First off knock it off with the passive aggressiveness.

Can't be compared. First off two different kits entirely (think back to Season 2/3-ish when in the old days Riot said you couldn't compare Garen and Darius ults because they were different Champions). Besides that, Anivia's Q is significantly slower and easier to dodge while having a better reward for actually having it land.

And here you go into a rant explaining how you love to assume you know about how he has no reliable skill chain because you don't play him.

I catch people like you off guard in Ranked quite often.

Catch someone at about 70-75% life -> Q -> back off for a second feigning it -> flash + ult + w -> break the ult with Q and Ignite. That's your skill chain to kill someone in lane.

Other chains include Q+W yourself mid flight, Q+E for waveclear, etc. But your most common one is the one I listed. Q, attempt to wait a second, flash+ult+w+break the ult with Q.

You obviously didn't read what, I said, and I called your ass out on it in a satirical manner, get over yourself.

So, because you say so, they can't be compared? hey are still the same skill, just ever so slightly tweaked. Claiming Riot said you can't compare two different champions because they are different champions is bullshit, if they're skills function, look, are act in the same way they can be compared. Period. And as you illustrated for me, Anivia's Q is all around a healthier skill, being more difficult to land, but giving it more reliability, not to mention it's hit box is actually visible.

Congrats, you have one full kit skill chain, that requires a 4+ minute summoner, really healthy for the next 4 minutes I'm sure.

The fact you need a summoner just to make his kit viable is not healthy, honestly, I cannot see why someone who obviously has a deep love for the character is so against making him more viable, more interesting, and more healthy in the game you obviously love, it's mind boggling.

Who gives a shit if you think this is the case; Riot's philosophy says otherwise so they don't give a damn.

I've only see a couple people mention this but a QoL fix to that might be decent.

Ionian, Distortion, Insight, hey look it's no longer 4+ minutes at all and is now a lot lot shorter.

It's like Riot made this a lot easier to do consistently now.

In high, high, high rated games (for the most part I'm talking about very high diamond+ but it seeps sometimes into lower diamond and plat depending on the game) Annie is forced to Flash+Ult almost every time she wants to get one off.

Lee Sin also has multiple very important combos revolving around Flash and if he didn't have access to those combos he'd be a lot more limited.

{quoted}

Because it's been messed up repeatedly.

Riot wanted to rework Skarner. Skarner was the first Champion I ever played and I loved him so, so, so much. He meant a lot to me and he was a big part of my heart.

They reworked him and he felt shitty and terrible. He felt like crap and even pro players said he was -useless-.

They fixed that! They actually fixed it. He felt AMAZING when they gave him a new Passive and it was so beautiful.

But because he wasn't -popular-, they decided "let's fix him again" despite his reworked kit being really well done.

They warped him a lot, and he became incredibly overpowered, pick or ban. They nerfed him and now his winrate is really good but he's still not played at all. They didn't fix the popularity issue at all, he's just different and doesn't feel as good.

I also played Mordekaiser since Season 2 and he was also one of my favorite Champions of all time; i took him into Ranked a fuckton and also had a couple hundred Ranked games with him.

EVERYONE who mained Mordekaiser said the rework, before it came out, was going to be a complete disaster. I talked to multiple and every last one of us said "this is going to be shit." We also called it out on being overpowered on release.

See, Mordekaiser -did- have a significant problem. He -did- see pro play repeatedly, quite a few times, and his winrate was a steady 50%, not 1% higher or lower, for -years-. However he had one issue: no mobility or cc sucked. So they fixed that by making it so his W would grant MS. There done, he was now healthy.

But he was still "outdated" and "not popular". So they reworked him. He became overpowered as all hell and became pick/ban. They then nerfed him and yet again, he saw absolutely no play whatsoever. But the sad part? I've talked to multiple Mordekaiser mains and along with myself? He feels terrible to play now. They took a Champion we loved, and they made him feel shitty to play, so that they could "make him more viable and healthy, and more popular". But that didn't work, none of those were solved, they just ruined him.

Some of the updates were a success. Poppy and Sion's kits flat out weren't healthy to the game at all and had to be reworked from the ground-up, but that's due to massive fundamental issues that didn't exist in a single other Champion. Darius and Garen however were perfect examples of kits that did wind up perfectly changed; the old mains for the most part, with a few exceptions, still enjoy him and they're better now.

But every last Champion that -wasn't- popular that I loved, remained unpopular even when they became "more healthy" when they were fine. Again Skarner needed his first rework I get that, and Mordekaiser needed the W change. But after those they were fine but they got reworked again and now they're entirely different.

I don't want that to happen to Galio. And you know what?

You guys don't either, you just don't know it yet. He won't suddenly be played all the time unless his kit becomes overpowered. Poppy's a bit overpowered at the moment so she sees some play but Sion dropped off the face of the earth (though his seriously had to happen). Skarner fell off the face of the earth. Mordekaiser fell of the face of the earth.

He might be enjoyable for a month or two, then you'll either move on to the next overpowered thing, the new Champion coming back, or your old mains and you won't touch him for ages.

His kit is fine now, he's just different. He's very different. Different isn't wrong. He doesn't cause problems for other Champions and he's entirely playable-- he's not even weak now. Like I said before he's good now and a lot of it (not all) comes from Insight, Distortion, and Lucidity all being a thing so that he can Flash+Ult a lot, lot more now. He's a good Champion that doesn't cause issues (i.e. Skarner's first iteration where he permaslowed causing frustrations to go against) and he has an entirely different feel making him feel amazing for a few and for the rest they'll enjoy others.

That's how things should be.

He's poke reliant.

He might need a new E yeah since it's a little awkward; that's about the only thing that needs to be changed. If he gets a stronger E his W might need a small nerf though.
