Talon doesn't do magical damage lol. He's a physical damager dealer.

Some champions have true damage which is what it sounds like. Some champions have both magical and physical damage. Most are simply either mostly Physical or mostly Magical.

Armor works against physical damage and Magic Resist works vs Magical.

Talon usually takes Thunderlord's. There should be some (small) magic damage numbers.

Part of the reason I said mostly.

He himself doesn't do any though.

So physical damage is the type of damage you do with auto attack and some abilities. The ability description will always tell you the type of damage it does.

Physical damage is countered by armour.

Some abilties do magic damage. Magic damage is pretty much the same as physical damage and it is primarily used by mages and other heavy spellcasters.

Magic damage is reduced by magic resist.

True damage is the least common one, and unlike the other two types it ignore resistances and damage reduction.

A champion like Talon is always going to do mostly physical damage, while a champion like Syndra is going to do mostly magic damage. The damage type is mostly important for tanks so that they can build to fight the enemy team, stacking a lot of magic resist vs magic damage team or armour vs physical damage teams.

The lightning you see is a keystone mastery called Thunderlords Decree. Every 3rd hit on a champion (With a 30-40 ish second Cooldown) does a blast of extra damage in a small area.

When you read your abilities, you can see the type of damage your abilities do. You may wanna buy Lethality items (Youmuu's Ghostblade, Duskblade of Drahktarr, Edge of Night) to increase that damage. Works best against people with low armor (you can check this out by left clicking on them. The stat is in the first column 2nd row iirw.

When reading abilities, you can see orange numbers and light green numbers (there are others but these one are the most common) between parentheses. Orange means you can increase the ability's effect by purchasing attack damage items. Light green means you can increase the ability's effect by purchasing ability power items.

I won't repeat what Mr hazeyo said, but it's worth noting True damage isn't reduced by armor/magic resist (it considers the target has 0 armor, 0 magic resist for this spell/attack/whatever).

If you got any more questions let me know.

Very few champs can effectively build into other types of damage.

For the most part, your damage type comes from how often you use autos (physical damage) and the type of damage your spells do (physical, magic, or true damage). Summoner Spells like Smite and Ignite deal true damage, while a lot of items with special effects deal magic damage (although some item effects deal physical damage instead).

In general, the knowing damage types are more useful in champion select and for building defensively. If a team has all physical damage dealers it's easier for tanks to counter them by just building armor, but if there's a good mix of magic damage dealers in there as well then the tanks have to build both armor and magic resist.
