What's with all the true damage?

So lately I've been noticing a recurring event. I'll be playing a game like usual, things are going good. Enemy gets a little fed, I die, look at my death recap and notice that half my health was done in true damage. What the hell is up with that? No champion should be able to deal such large amounts of damage in true damage. Cho'Gath can deal near 1000 health with the press of his ult, which is enough to kill just about anyone, even if you build full tank and have around 3000 health, that's still 1/3 of your health, which in my opinion is not acceptable and fair by any means. Especially when you're such a tanky champion such as Cho'Gath. A little bit is fine, like Ahri's Q, or Vel'Koz's passive. But when I look at my death recap and see 44% true damage, I just can't help but feel like I was bullshitted hard.

Its all power creep. Riot: "We've literally pushed mobility as far as it can go, how do we make these new reworks and champions profitable?" CT :"True damage?" CT gets a raise

To be fair, Cho has to get into melee to do that, his real issue is not his R, its his Rupture. The ability has the scaling of Veigar's W, half the delay and knocks people up as well. As a whole I don't find Cho imbalanced, but there are aspects of his kit that other champions had that got them gutted.

Vel's true damage actually isn't that little. He can do 820 (at level 18) true damage to up to 3 people with 615 of it able to hit the entire enemy team with one combo QWERWQ (since W has a charge system, a full rotation isn't quite accurate)
