Free champs in ranked?

So i just noticed that free champs weren't able to pick in ranked which is understandable but frustrating, like lets say somebody practices Thresh alot and gets good with them but cant play them in ranked due to not owning him and doesn't have the ip or rp to buy him(especially for a fresh 30 because they'd be focused on trying to finish their rune page, which costs nearly 8400-18000 ip buying all tier 3 runes from scratch) so then it might force somebody to have to pick a champion they haven't practiced with because the one they've invested most of their time into cant be chosen.

so idk if its a bug and if not, when it was implemented. Just looking for some input as to other opinions on this and maybe as to why it might've been done besides keeping inexperienced players picking something they arent comfortable with(can also be seen in the opposite direction as noted before)

Absolutely not. It's not a bug, it's intentional. It's already irritating when people go 'lol first time Akali' in a normal and go 0/12 and act like that's okay. I really don't want to lose LP because of the same type of people in ranked.

And if you've invested 'most of your time' into learning a certain champ during free week, you should have enough IP to buy them, it's that simple. If you don't think you have decent runes yet, you should not be playing ranked.

Why exactly are you playing ranked if you dont own the champions you are good with?

You have never been able to use free-week champions in ranked to my knowledge. It's possible that you could before preseason 3, but I didn't play then. Free-week champions primarily exist so that players may try champions before purchase so that they can see if they like the champion or not.

You shouldn't really have any issues finishing up two basic rune pages by level 30. When I first started the game, I just saved up IP from level 16/17 to level 20 and I had enough to buy the runes for basic AD and AP (w/ flat armor and flat MR) pages, which can cover pretty much every champion adequately. If you don't have basic rune pages, you probably shouldn't be playing ranked yet in the first place anyways.

You used to be able to free champs in ranked and they stopped it. It was pure cancer with first timers feeding relentlessly.

Why would you invest most of your time in a champ you don't own? Your post makes no sense.

The only reason it was brought to my attention was i recently lvld a smurf and used xp boosts to get to 30 quickly(didnt have enough rp for an ip boost) so i spent most ip on runes .my rune pages are about 80%-90% filled with tier 3(rest filled with tier 2 and the difference between the 2 isnt that much unless it s a scaling rune). i ran into this problem when i got put into adc in a ranked game which i did poorly in (granted i prob shouldnt be playing ranked without being fully prepared, we still won though) im much more comfortable with kalista than the current adc's that i have(ashe and trist). I never noticed this on my main since i had the majority of champs when i started playing ranked. my argument has no validity but i was more curious on the situation than anything

If you are a surf you shouldn't really need runes to beat the enemies
