New Champion(s)

Hello Dear Riot, and fellow community members.

I'm here to post a suggestion about the ongoing issues in Ranked Games where people are actually trying to have fun and you have other players just making it difficult to enjoy the game what-so-ever by abusing the system itself.

As we are all aware of we cannot report players anymore for being "Unskilled" so it's perfectly fine for someone to go 0/10 because it'll just be labeled as "bad game" if he is actually just playing but the player is clearly unskilled for various reasons, but I am targeting one problem right now, new champions.

Riot, don't get us wrong, we love the new content, we love new champions, and everything that has yet to come, however you need to put restrictions to content you actually release.

Don't allow champions you release to be available in ranked rather have them "Locked" for a timeperiod, say 1-2 weeks, and they can only be played in normal games / draft etc.

That way it will allow people to actually try those champions out in normal games and practice them instead of having these ignorant people jumping into ranked and just trying them out, ruining the game for everyone, your team and enemy team included.

TLDR: New champions in ranked games are a big issue, put a time restriction on the champions after they are release, not allowing them to be played in ranked. e.g 1-2 weeks before the champion is unlocked in ranked, however summoner can enjoy the new content in normal/draft to try and practice the champion out.

Sincerely, Rugo

How 'bout we get like a mastery LOCK instead? then we will solve the issue with everyone try outing champs in rankeds xD We could have like mastery level 3+ for the champion to be available in ranked :)) also will help us fight the botting community selling accounts to smurfs :)

OverWatch does this, and it works for them. I highly support this idea.

My rankeds were nightmares when sylas was released. Literally half hour after he was in game i get him in ALL of my games, and all of them was feeding as hell. New champions should be locker not for 2 weeks, for a month minimum before some idiot can take it to rankeds.

I personally feel that Ranked rules aren't strict enough in general to deter players from purposefully unskillful play. I mean everyone can have bad games, but if you pick something really off-meta like e.g Azir jungle and all your team can see is Azir dying to jgl creeps all the time, then bad games can't be an excuse. Same is true for picking a new champion in ranked in day 0. I read somewhere that Riot doesn't want such rule, because people can try the new champion on the test server prior the release. However, not every player can play on the test server, furthermore in the first 2 weeks after the release, it is close to impossible to practice that champion, because everybody is playing him/her/it.

The worst part is if you just ban the new champ. People who try to lock him in say, "Ok fine, get ready for troll". . . I wish I took a screen shot of this with Sett "players" this last week. People throw bc U ban their sett at 1st day of realease IN RANKED.

GFREEMEN1/18/2020, 11:08:01 PM3 votes

Why only new champs?

Its no different then someone going

"First time Zed"

A better option is to make it so you need to have at least Mastery 1 with a champ before you can play them in Ranked.

Yes,, pls god yes! Riot!!! :3 Pls make this happen [zombie-nunu-hearts]

Smite does this, and it works wonders. I'm really shocked League hasn't emulated.

Had a guy playing Sett in my provisional games, he wasn't bad but like the champ was only few days old, almost every single matchup would be new to him (we obviously lost but not much of his fault maybe lil)

I've no idea how to implement it, but it needs to be for every champion based on mastery/games played. I'd rather have a first time set than a first time azir. The issue is "first timing" champs, not solely new champs.

They already did that thing to set due to his bugs. But still letting us suffer in soloqueue if someone whose ego is to big to tries Sett in normals decides to do it first time in ranked.

Dota has this to an extent. If a hero is problematic or just newly released, people can't play them in certain modes, straight up. I don't know why Riot wouldn't let one live patch go by and see how the champion does before releasing it to the wild.

Janakin1/18/2020, 10:55:58 AM2 votes

I think most people would just wait 2 weeks to practice them in the rankeds anyway.

Xhaiden1/18/2020, 12:42:35 PM2 votes

I get what you're saying and i agree with your concern - but your solution to that is quite faulty - to say the least. I mean, even if a new champion is locked for 2 weeks - you'd still find plenty "who still play that champ for the 1st time". This actually happens even with older champions - so it's an old and general issue (champions with little to no experience being picked in rank - basically "trying or learning that champion in rank"). This concern was addressed multiple times and here's a solution posted in past topics as well - that could actually improve the experience of those playing rank, as in:

If you don't have at least lvl 4 Mastery on a champion - that should be locked till you achieve that Mastery. You can Ban that champion - same as you can ban the champions you don't have - you just can't use it yourself.

Level 4 mastery (or even lvl 7 mastery) - might not reflect a high skill - but at least it shows that you played that champion enough to get used to its play-style and its abilities.

Even more than that... every new season - you should have at least 5 games on normal with that champion (in case they reworked him or you haven't played him for quite some time - many months or years even - since mastery lvl doesn't decay). Or... they could implement "Mastery Decay" - so your mastery will drop on that champion if you don't play him. Starting from Mastery 4 -if that's the minimum mastery for rank (stops decaying at lvl 3).

Hmm, I was ready for a rant post, but I think I stumbled upon the first reasonable one for this week. Well played sir

Lorenz Hellman1/18/2020, 5:25:00 PM2 votes

too bad u havent the luck to get me on ur team when i play the new guy.

Charmy Bird1/18/2020, 5:57:58 PM2 votes

I rl don't see why this hasn't been implemented yet. Everytime there's a new champ I'm forced to take a big break from ranked cuz dumb people will first time a new champ and if I ban it then those same idiots will be shocked and troll.

LordForrest1/18/2020, 6:56:35 PM2 votes

You do realize that the Unskilled report didn't do anything, right? I was just placebo that was their for people to feel better about themselves and were ignored by the report system. Its why Riot removed it, because it didn't do anything and gave the wrong impression.

Lanakila Au1/18/2020, 8:05:17 PM2 votes

People who play the new champ in ranked either have no experience, or they have an unfair advantage because they have a PBE account. Either way it shouldn't be allowed

I say Facts1/18/2020, 8:45:49 PM2 votes

That is true. Although, I had another idea in my mind but It would not work well anyway. They could allow only the PBE users who have mastery 3 on the new champion to play on live ranked server. Getting mastery 3 is pretty easy and they have 2 weeks to learn the champion too. Nontheless, this is just a basic idea that I thought may work out, but it is not really as good as I think it might be. It might turn out to be unfair? because the members who havn't played him at all on PBE will need to be forced to play against this "new champion" and they might not like it.

My idea might be 50%, just saying. New ideas are always helpful.

Did you know that in some regions there isn't a normal draft? just Blind pick and ranked
