New Challenges / Profile Banners

An edition of challenges (such as kill 50 dragons) would certainly bring a lot to the table to the players of League of Legends. Challenges could set goals far beyond champion mastery points and a victory itself. Here are some great opportunities for adding challenges:

  • Profile Banners - As put in the title, this would be a very appreciated thing for those who like customization, or better yet, a way for people to show off some of their most special achievements. An example of an obtainable profile banner through a challenge would be a Katarina banner by winning 30 games with her. These profile banners don't have to be limited to challenges, but some can be of IP/RP costs. A banner similar to the icons for Worlds each year could be sold for 250 RP and all the proceeds are given to the winning team. The winning team could also be awarded with a themed banner (similar to eSport skins) that could either be obtained with IP or even the purchase of one of the eSports skins of that certain team (Example: Buy SKT Ryze, get the SKT profile banner). It would make eSports skins that more special.

  • IP Bonuses - Although I personally have all the champions, I still remember the times of slowly buying each and every champion. Obtaining champions could take forever unless one buys an IP boost or each champion according to RP costs. Depending on the difficulty of the challenge, players would be awarded with a fair amount of IP.

  • Progress - Like I said before, these challenges set goals beyond a victory. Many players like myself play to win, but win or loss, at the end of the day, what really matters is progress. Progress makes us stronger, smarter, and sometimes more confident. This is a reason for not only stats, but banners in reward for progress, or perhaps dedication.

These challenges could have more potential than I currently imagine. It's a matter of time before someone may take this idea and possibly turn it into something more. Lastly, I would like to share some ideas on what these challenges could be.

CHALLENGES:

  • Win 30 games with [Champion]
  • Kill 50 Dragons
  • Kill 10 Baron Nashors
  • Play 100 matches on Summoner's Rift
  • Play 50 matches on Howling Abyss
  • Play 50 matches on Twisted Treeline
  • Obtain first blood
  • Get [#] Creep Score
  • Get [#] Takedowns
  • Shut down an enemy
  • Achieve a pentakill
  • Get {#] Assists
  • Takedown {#] Skuttle Crabs
  • Use [Summoner Spell] [#] times
  • Total lifetime gold earned = 1 million
  • Deal [#] of damage
  • Heal [#] of health
  • Obtain Level [#] Champion Mastery
  • Play your first match
  • Become Legendary
  • Recall to base {#] times
  • Get Honorable Opponent [#] times
  • Play [Role] [#] times
  • Win as [Role] [#] times
  • Purchase your first Champion
  • Purchase your first Skin
  • Queue with friends [#] times
  • Be a member of League of Legends for [#] years

PS: The default profile banner has become very dull over the years of League of Legends. Let's make a difference.

I'm actually someone who is heavily against challenges/achievements in games like League/HotS/DoTA2/etc. Very few of these games actually have raw achievements.

Now, I don't mind "Win <x> amount of games" or "Unlock <y> amount of champions" but my problem comes from achievements based on specific activities. In norms this might not be a big deal but I can't tell you how many times I've seen people in games try to coordinate for XYZ achievement. As an example, here is what I'd fear:

[1]: Ok let's push to win. [3]: Don't win yet I need my achievement for doing 30k damage in one game!! [5]: Can we go kill Baron and Elder? I want the Baron/Elder achievement. [4]: /all Hey can you guys let me penta you? [6] (Enemy): Only if you let us get pentas.

I'm not saying this would happen every time but in a game like League having achievements just encourages some problematic things.

While some of those might be viable and neat additions, riot is (and should be) very cautious about adding any sort of 'achievements' (or challenges of this sort) that'd make people intentionally play weird instead of doing their best to win.

No one wants to be stuck in a match where someone is ignoring teamfights because they're busy farming scuttle crabs.

FYI: We can't see the image due to these --> [] with these () next to them creates an link which can't be clicked.

Champion mastery level 8. Profile champion banner.

Give us something FANCY with that champion mastery rito. What are you doing with it other than gobbling up ip to gobble up more rp and give veterans champion mastery addiction to play your game longer? That's literally all you're doing with it. Yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

I can understand profile banners might be cliche though, but at least even an icon would be nice.

While tons of people would still complain, there would have to be a win requirement to finalize scoring most of the challenges. This ensures that nobody is knowingly throwing a game chasing achievements.

Well if this does even happen in the future, then they shouldn't allow challenges in Ranked. Ranked already have it's own achievements aka the end of season rewards & adding these challenges will (further (depends on your opinion of Dynamic Queue)) ruin the competitiveness of Ranked. I know some players take Ranked less seriously than they should, challenges would just increase the amount of those players aka them playing for challenges rather than playing to the best of their ability to win.

Also Challenges will add some (more (again, depend on your opinion) value to other modes beside Ranked like TT, ARAM or any of the RGM. And they can add some champ specific challenges in there.

This had best be retroactive or I will be pissed

The Problem with Achievments like this are people who hunt them recklessly without careing for their Team.

Recall to base: Ok, I do nothing else but recalling all the game until i got it. Get CS: Ok, AFK-Farm till some wins Dragons: 'Guys dont finish, let's farm Dragons and Barons.'

And I guess I dont have to explain the problems with kills and assists. ^^

That's why we need some systems to prevent abuses like this.

One way would be to allocate each player a unique (RNG*) limited set of (Let's say 10 out of a pool of 200) achievments he can get randomly by playing good. Additionally each Achievment should have a small RNG factor as well. For example the Drakes - the number of Ds a player needs to kill should alter a little. (something like between 20 and 30?)

OFC the achievments currently avaible should be hidden and swap after some time.. a month - maybe.

Achiements already unlocked, dont show up in the pool anymore and are visible.

*maybe we could also increase the probability of getting some achievments by looking at the most played role? Main JGLs are getting Objective achievments more likely, Supps Assist/Vision Achievments, Mids DMG dealt achievemts and so on... ^^'

There isn't a profile banner in the alpha client. So I'm not sure that would be a great reward in the end. Since when we switch over it'd be gone and useless anyway. I suppose they could make it the background image but they already kinda do that anyway. As in if you play Gnar a lot your background image is Gnar.

That being said I'm not sure how achievements would effect gameplay. You don't want to drag the games out too long because people won't end because they are trying to achieve whatever achievement for that game. I certainly wouldn't put it in ranked but maybe in normals it'd be fine. Though I know some people take normals very seriously.

Aside from that would they reset every season? Or would you just keep them? If you implemented it right now would those that have already bought their first champion or gotten whatever mastery on whatever champ and whatever else already have them unlocked? Since they certainly couldn't buy their first champion again. They might could reach mastery whatever on a different champion but what about the one trick pony people? Those lulu mains and Nami mains and Lucian mains? Would they have to master a new champion or would you give it to them?

Why did people keep on asking for a profile banner??? We have a new client coming out, soon this idea will be obsolete because of the new client.

A Liberal6/12/2016, 6:20:55 PM1 votes

New client doesn't have that banner, and instead shows the splash of whoever you're recently playing.

I would just do wins

There's a lot of really fun ideas here, but Mysticman89 does have a really good point. Lots of potential trolls just working towards getting their little "fun" milestone. I'd like to see some implemented, but some not.

Like Xbox/Playstation achievements, but are actually useful :D

This would be a really neat addition to League, especially with anyone playing for more than a year consistently getting bored! This can easily bring up activity.
