A Question for Support Mains

So I just got out of a game where I was Janna supporting Vayne . Our opponents were a Jhin and Sona . Now, after a 1 for 1 trade, where Jhin tower-dove and wasted flash to kill Vayne and was subsequently killed by me and the tower, Vayne started falling behind. Eager to try and get back in the game, Vayne was killed 2 more times by Jhin and Sona and then ganked and killed by their Jungler. So my question is this: my Vayne was 0/4/1 at about 8 minutes. As a support Champ whose primary role is as a peel/disengage for my damage dealers, how was I supposed to salvage this game? I can't leave my under-leveled ADC against Jhin and Sona because they'll kill her. But I'm not any tankier...

The problem is the matchup itself. At an LCS level they just would have lane swapped that. You literally have no way to fight against them other than shielding Vayne and hoping she can single Jihn out for trades 1v1, which as Sona has a huge range that's not gonna happen. I don't know how champ select went, but either she should not have chosen Vayne or you should have taken an engage heavy support to kill that Sona. Janna is a support who kinda makes lane bullies even stronger than they normally are, but Vayne is like, the opposite of a lane bully, she just gets shit on by everyone. You just had no synergy.

I'm gonna say it was the Vayne though, because Vayne sucks right now and you have to be a masochist to pick her.

The matchup itself is already bad enough for you and Vayne. Sona is one of the better off-counters to Janna because Sona doesn't really have much engage, therefore making disengage kind of pointless. Both she and Jhin easily outtrades you and Vayne at any given time in lane (don't forget heals, people always underestimate the amount of healing Sona could do), and can easily zone the crap out of you two. Yes, even post-level 6 because Vayne can attempt to go all-in for kills, and then gets shredded halfway, and you don't know what kind of buttons to press because it's pretty much a pokefest.

Best bet, play super safe, ask for jungler assistance (they are very easy to gank, let alone a Sona), and just make sure Vayne get as much farm as possible. If Jhin or Sona is looking like they're gonna try to chunk down someone's HP bars, prepare your shield and try to predict who they're gonna attack; it's usually the ADC but smarter ones can rotate between you and her. Get coin because you are not going to do any poking, unless you really want that spooky ghost active afterwards. If Vayne can farm up to Jhin's CS, then you have done your job; their point of "poke lane bully" is pointless.

Focus more on teamfights or even splitpushing, if anything.

EDIT: I forgot something. This is already happening with a Lucian, who is supposed to be a lane bully and can trade early on with most ADCs. Vayne just made the situation more extreme.

Im a support main and honestly its not about peeling and supporting the adc. You always attach yourself to the strongest member of your team you keep the person safe and peel for that person so that person can in turn carry the team and if the opportunity arises where u can help secure a kill for other members of the team or keep some1 else safe without the main carry dying then go for it.

I agree this matchup sucks, and sometimes you do just have to go somewhere else (especially if your ADC tilts too hard, you cant help other people). You lost lane, let them take tower, vayne farms in safer grounds (hopefully). You help out the other carrys and watch the other team's bot lane as they probably start to roam. Trying to make sure they don't impact the other lanes too much by warding up those other lanes and trying to stay safe yourself. If bot lane does push to second turret, mid AND jung should come down and punish them with 4 man. Or top with a TP.

I'm not a support main, but I would imagine the best option at that point is to do your best to survive your lane and try to coordinate with your jungler to make a 3-man play in mid. If your lane is lost, you might be able to salvage your situation by opening up your mid lane for roams and 4/5-man plays in the bottom lane. You can also try to allocate empty lanes to your adc while you force skirmishes or siege in other lanes.

Of course, both of these options probably depend on your elo because you need players with a decent grasp of map control and team play before you could make those types of moves. If you think you can manage it, try to find out where the enemy jungler is and roam up to mid if at any point you see them backing after a clear or showing in the top lane.

I've seen supports abandon their lanes to try to assist top and mid, but I don't think that's the right answer.

Shouldn't have lost that hard unless your vayne was just braindead and kept trying to go in/eating poke from BOTH sona and jhin.

But in the case you had I would give up that lane and just start warding around mid/near enemy jungle then if you can see a play mid or top start staying near those lane. If not just go bot and just try to not die.

Your vayne was probably tilted. To stop ganks ward. To stop tower pushes use your Q. E when they are low. In chase W. Ult is an amazing disengage.

I'm not the "Best" at this game but if it were me, I think vayne needs to play a little more passive, if jhin flashed in to get the kill, vayne could have used condemn to knock jhin away but that's if vayne already used her Q and E and it's on cooldown at that point. My suggestion to you would be to ward up river more often, saving your tornado for ganks and jhin. Because sona has the healing effects plus shield, there's not much you can do about trading to much damage. If jhin ends up stunning vayne, tornado jhin so he puts less damage on vayne and vayne has a better chance of getting away. Your job would be to stay with vayne, letting her farm parts jungle and minion waves. save your ability's like tornado and ultimate if a stronger enemy were to approach. and make sure to not go past river (Considering your tower is most likely gone at this point) or else you could be in potential trouble.
