High silver/ low gold MMR

So, what is the deal with the match making in high silver/ low gold? I run into more bronze players on losing streaks at silver 1 then I did in 4-2. Talking to players in those games it's a trend. What gives? Just got demoted to Silver 2 after 8 games with bronze players feeding in an elo they shouldn't be in. Anyone experienced this at other ranks? It's really tilting to work your butt off to get to the top of a ladder then have your time wasted and your games ruined by people that are much lower mmr then you, on losing streaks, and don't care to win... I'm no where near the best, I'm only silver, so before you flame me, i know. But this is really annoying as a lower elo player.

Depends when was that, I noticed a lot more recently than before.

My guess is the summer vacation, as it ends soon. Probably most people we in vacation and didn't play much, if at all, and now that there's less than a month left, depending on regions, countries, etc, it goes full potato.

What was Xin doing in my game? No idea. The lowest team member of the enemy team was B1. Also had a game today (thank Ahri it was a remake) where the enemy jg was G2 while mine being another B4.

Not sure what's the deal, but my guess would still be on the summer vacation and the hiccup Riot had with the MMR earlier this season.

Xin was duoing with the Jinx, who's a high Silver. A low Bronze and a high Silver duo together in a low Silver MMR game, perfectly normal.

Duos ruin match-making, but that's not news, and the last time Riot considered removing them, all the streamers and youtubers complained. So blame them, not Riot. (There are more than enough valid reasons to blame Riot, let's not add fake ones to the stack...)

(Also, the enemy jungler was Silver2, not Gold2.)

Since when is S4 "high silver"?

Jinx is S4, Xin is B4, I'm the highest ranked in my team, so that duo should've found a different match somewhere around B2. He should still not be in my game.

Also, I didn't ment that match when I was talking about the G2 jg vs B4 jg)

Jinx is Silver2: https://eune.op.gg/summoner/userName=%C4%86wokerxp

OP.GG is often out of sync if you don't go to the page of each individual player and update it manually. On your own page it shows the latest known rating, but that can be months old.

Look at the screen shot.

That's the in-game loading screen.

The in-game shows Jinx as S4, that was the solo/duo rank she had when she played that match.

Now, I'm not saying she couldn't climb in the meantime, that game is a few days old, so could've got from S4 to S2 in that time, especially with the WR she has on Jinx.

But at the time, she was S4, so there was no reason for them to be in that match.

Ah, good call, didn't notice it was in the screenshot, my bad.

That being said, keep in mind Rank doesn't really matter, only MMR. All signs point to Jinx having a better MMR than Silver4, even if we cannot tell for sure.

I don't disagree that her MMR could be higher, but THAT high to drag a B4 in a Silver game is a bit "too much", don't ya think?

According to OP.GG, for what it's worth, the MMR of the game as a whole was Silver4. Having a Bronze4 in a Silver4 game is a bit far, but not that far, and I think there's also a handicap for people who go in Duo, so the rating of a Duo is not just the average of their two individual rating.

So, all in all, it's surprising, but not an obvious sign that the system isn't working properly.

It did apparently "happen" to me a few times, but when I took the time to actually check the details, it was usually legit in the end.

Like, I would see a Bronze player, but checking their profile, it's pretty obviously a smurf with 65+% winrate. Or I get a real Bronze, but they are Duo with the 55%-winrate Silver1 guy who's stomping.

As far as I can remember, I never got a truly Bronze player on a losing streak in high Silver.

Usually duos account for awkward MMR differences.

I'm in Gold 1, and I've been placed with people as low as Silver 2 because of duos, but I've seen more drastic differences in other games.

The other reason is smurfs, but at Silver you can usually tell if someone is a smurf pretty easily. Most smurfs stomp out Bronze and cruise through Silver.

Always check if the account is low-level. That's a sign that they're a smurf of some sort. I say some sort, because not all smurfs are created equal. A Diamond 4 smurf at my ELO is not as impressive as someone in Masters, and a lot of smurfs are either boosted and/or too afraid to play on their main account and likely belong in Platinum. So their ability to hard carry at my ELO is diminished, and most smurfs won't work with the team.
