Matchmaking for low levels is DISGUSTING. Is this being addressed at all?

I just waited in a 5 minute queue to play against a Diamond ranked midlaner. My summoner level? 15. I'm still learning things, yet I get put up against a high leveled player. I can't speak for everyone, but IMO being constantly stomped while still trying to learn isn't fun.

Too much balance problems and money to roll around in. Riot wont fix the match making... I played a game a while ago where they had a diamond and 2 plats. We has a couple golds, 1 plat and a level 26 player that got stomped... the system is fucked tbh

I didn't even know how to look up other players when I was level 15...

A serious issue is someone with only summoner 7 summoner 12 unlocked fighting someone with summoner 4 summoner 14 ...... Flash is the strongest summoner in the game without a doubt and fighting someone allowed to use it can fuck you over. Ignite counters your heal and is the go to for most assassins or mid laners. Ignite is easily one of the most powerful summoners in the game and second in battle summoners only to maybe barrier but barrier requires proper timing to not waste.

I don't understand why it's so hard to match people within 3 levels of each other. Riot really seems to have adopted a "Level 30 problems or gtfo"

MegaManYYZ5 votes

because the player pool within 3 levels for low level players is quite small per region.

ChaoticPinecone2 votes

Hard? No, its not hard.

the question is, are you willing to wait in queue for 30 minutes? Im pretty sure Riot can implement a system where you get matched perfectly according to your rank/level, but the wait times to do so would be extremely long.

You should be thankful, id give a good amount to face against diamonds every game (to learn how to play better)

you go to lane. you are dead. enjoy the lesson.

It could encourage you to try out new play styles, If diamond players are shreking you, you might be like "oh hey, farming it up and waiting till late game might be a good idea"

Cool story. Except after even one or two deaths you just die under your turret. Unless you have super long range and wave clear to farm with, against someone that much better than you it is over, you just don't even get to play the game.

So, basically, you are saying that you need to win, to feel like you've done something...

Maximum Morde26 votes

No, just that you need to be capable of fighting back to learn anything. It's like trying to learn martial arts but Indiana Jones pulls out a gun and shoots you. You didn't get any better from that, you got rekt.

You should've learned something there...you don't bring a knife to a gun fight. Cheers m8!

I'm playing in normals against diamonds constantly and getting stomped by them isn't funny. And i am plat 4.

CrazyC0ffee1 votes

HA LUCKY. IM BRONZE 2 GETTING FACED REGULARLY AGAINST PLATS AND DIAMONDS. MUCH FUN FOR ME :D

elon wątroba1 votes

Just played against challenger 1 in normal, my life is done :D.

In fact of course lvl 15 isn't enjoying this but for bronze/silver/gold players it is very interesting to play against far better players. Why ? Because they make no major/medium mistakes (from your point of view when laning against them) and you just to try to farm at least equally you need to copy/paste what they are doing.

Learning to play versus great players during some game was one of my best experiences. After that game i talked with this diamond guy (which was streaming btw) and he gave me some hints and congratulated me for at least resisting and kept trying all game long even though i was no match. But of course not every one has this mentality T.T

Rofl, you wouldn't understand what you're doing wrong. You'd get crushed, then be left wondering what happened, and not just against Diamond, even against a Plat the same would happen.

Well I guess if you're only lvl 15 but you could still add them and ask them to see if they can make you better

At best they would just give you some generalistic pointers you could fine in a guide anyway.

The problem is that the game is snowbally, you make some mistakes early(not too sure what those are),then he has gold and exp lead, then you make some small mistake and die, then his lead is bigger, you make a minor mistake and die.

You learn the most if your opponent is even or slightly better,if he is a lot better you don't even know what you are doing wrong.

I still remember the time i played against someone VASTLY better than our entire team. I was new enough i still hadnt seen this champion called "jax" played, was around level 10 or so, and he died not even once during our entire game. No one on our team could touch him. 5v1 and we lost hardcore. It wasnt fun, it wasnt a learning experience, what i took away from that was that it was an op broken champion. Looking back, i realize its because the guy playing him was that damn skilled with the champion. You really do learn from them being only slightly better than you. Too far ahead and its like watching humans as an ant. You cannot comprehend whats going on at all.

Watching a commentary on youtube where thy explain everything theyre doing, thats huge. In game, better to face someone just superior enouhg to force you to adapt or youll be too busy getting destroyed to pinpoint your mistakes

If you could record the video of the game, it could help. Look at it later on and go like ha that was dumb or, why did I do that? Why didn't I buy a pink ward?

The only solution would be to make matchmaking wait longer to look for similar level/experienced players. Getting stomped may not be fun, but how long are you willing to wait for each PvP match with ~level 15's? 10 minutes? 20? 30? At some point, people will quit LoL over it before they can reach level 30.

This. I see a lot of Teambuilder lobbies fall apart because people aren't willing to wait ten minutes.

I mean, the system is doing it to try and get you into a game faster.

Were you playing with friends though? Because if you were, the match making gets really wonky when you have lvl 15 + some lvl 30's.

Kazaashi3 votes

How do you expect the system to account for 30's who Queue with the low levels? It's not the matchmaking, that is just a statistics engine, it literally just matches numbers.

You have to blame the lvl 30 players who queue with their low level friends instead of making a smurf.

It goes off of the highest level player in your party unless they changed it. When I have a friend of mine join LoL and we played together it would always put us in games with 30s no matter what level he was.

Other issue is Smurfs they kinda ruin the game for people

I feel you so hard op. I play agaisnt better players in normals (high plats, diamonds, and even a master tier) than I do in ranked (low plats and golds). Yea I'm plat V, but it's still wrong >.>

Saphixia2 votes

the reason is sometimes not every single league player is playing

AL0002 votes

well i saw too many bronze in diamond's MM... which is not cool...

Yrzen2 votes

It's generally based on your mmr. (match maker rating) Normal and ranked mmrs are separate, so you can occasionally be matched up with someone much more experienced than you if they play only ranked, because their normal mmr is still left behind at where they were long before they became diamond.

MunchCrunchLunch2 votes

am unranked. the other day we were matched against a diamond 2 quinn. she literally flew around the map killing everyone. she only died when she was flying inside our nexus are at like minute 15 while we all tried to kill her. it was depressing.

Akenero2 votes

Look at how the queue works(dont quote me on this) 1st priority: find an equally experienced player 2nd: find one slightly above or below 3rd: find anything

And if you wanna whine about matchmaking...

Ranked teams are like 10 times worse #EnChAnTeRs #NAboyz

KirynDawn2 votes

As a Diamond player I usually don't get matched against lower people unless I queue up with friends. When I solo it's pretty even.

Squidblimp2 votes

The reason is that generally high-ranking players play more ranked than normals, and normal and ranked have separate rankings, so when they DO play normals they get placed lower.

Lithium Rosa2 votes

Losing to good enemies can at least make you learn something. losing to trash teammates is the major problem in leage

Vincent Lucius2 votes

If they're willing to give you tips you might learn something, otherwise you just get stomped while trying to keep up.

Lithium Rosa2 votes

Sometimes I do give tips to people, and they just think I'm being a smartass or taunting, and I end up having replies like "go fuck yourself I aint need nobody to teach me how to play you just win with a noob champion"item 3070

Vincent Lucius1 votes

In my experience is best to ask them to stay back after the match so you can tell them something. If they stay then you can tell them something to help them in the future and if they don't then no skin off your back.

Honestly it isn't all that great on the other side of things. Even though I only peaked at gold 4 or 5 (back in season 4 or so, then grad school happened and I accumulated a LOT of rust) it is frustrating to end up with someone pre30 on your team because you know they don't have a full rune page, let alone an optimal one. My suggestion for Riot would be to make it so pre30 and people at level 30 are actually in separate queues so they couldn't get matched together. It isn't so much that level 30s are more skilled (many would be due to greater experience/game knowledge) but more that pre30s aren't on a level playing field in terms of runes so they are at a disadvantage automatically and can be a detriment to their team mates as a result.

thats' the reality you should be working in

They are mostly botted accounts which will be eventually banned. FYI

Play bots or ARAM until you hit lv 30, it sucks but you will be having more fun and learn at your own pace without being flamed nor stomped.

Matchmaking really needs to be better. I am unranked and am paired with Silver, Gold and occasionally plat. I don't care if I stomp lvl 25s and under I don't see how that translates to "OK this guy is def good enough to fight with the people who have had a shit ton of experience playing even though they started a few weeks ago"

Umbrakin1 votes

I started a topic and it's developed into studying the broken matchmaking for normal queue. Have a look. http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/h0qXUUYR-normal-team-builder-nearly-every-game-feels-like-a-blatant-miss-match
