Must Own 20 Champions to play Ranked? That's ridiculous!

I've been playing for awhile now and I've managed to acquire 12 champs Which is a good number to own. I've spent alot of IP on the ones I own and I am Not gonna spend more IP just to get some champions I don't want just to play ranked.

To be honest It feels like a scam for riot to milk money off money from players to get those extra champions. NOT gonna do that. I spend money on skins not champions. It would be insane.

So anyways Can they reduce the number of champions needed to play ranked or at least increase the # of free champions in rotation? It would help alot.

It's not 20 coincidentally. You need 20 because there are 10 bans and up to 9 people can pick before you. You need 20 to 100% be sure you have a champ to play

You need 20, because on the off chance that you are last pick and 19/20 of your champs are banned and picked you have 1 more option to choose from, its not a milk, its logic

you can not play ranked with free to play champions, they increased the amount to play ranked from 16 to 20 because of the amount of bans and they want you to have enough champs to be able to play your role well because lets say you are a mid main and have 9 mids and everyone bans your mid champ, you have no champs to play. its not riot trying to make money its riot trying to make the game more fun for the people who play ranked

I can sympathize. The probability of teams picking all champions you own is EXTREMELY low, that's not a convincing argument.

No the champ limit for ranked is in the off chance every single one of your champs is picked or banned you will still be able to play.

To be fair (as a gold player) I do believe 20 champions is a bit too much haha, even for new-comers... it should be at least 15 champions. (Just in-case in ban select EVERYONE bans ur champs, you'll have 5 more for every position (HOPEFULLY)

Yea I can agree on some of these comments below/above but if they put free rotation in rank, (rank is where ppl are serious i think) so yea if some guy were to pick a champ they never play they might perform bad. I mean thats what im thinking, i could be wrong because I've seen streamers and high elo say 1st time (champ).

There are 13 champs at the lowest price tier, 450 IP apiece. You can get the other 7 from the second lowest price tier, 1350 IP apiece. Total cost: 15,300 IP

A single win per day should be worth at least 200 IP with the first win of the day bonus in addition to the normal IP total. Days to acquire 20 champions at that pace: 76.5

Around every 3 additional games you play aside from the FWOTD should reduce that counter by one day, allowing you to reduce the time to much less.

It may be frustrating running up against this barrier before your first time playing ranked, but it's really not that much of an investment and you are ending up with a lot less to deal with than previous seasons when players also had to buy full priced tier 3 runes.

The number of champions needed used to be lower. They require you to have twenty champions now to diversify your picks due to the fact that more bans are available. Assuming all ten were used, you'd only have ten champions left available to you, which means you COULD have been banned out of a champion you'd have picked in your respective lane.

Once you have the champs you actually want to play, you don't really need IP for anything else, so you may as well just buy the 8 cheapest champs you have left to unlock ranked.

It used to be that you'd need gobs of IP for runes, but those are now almost free, and will soon be replaced with the (free) runes reforged system, so now the only 'useful' use for IP is champs.

Remember that even if you don't personally play a champ, owning them can still be useful to allow for champ select trades.

20 champs. 10 bans, 10 players.

Say 10 of your 20 are banned.

Now say the other nine players in the lobby all happen to pick one of your remaining 10. Now you're left with one. You wouldn't be able to play.

This will almost never happen, but if it does it fucks up the game and you can't play anyway. So just prepare and get your 20 champs. There are 13 450IP champs, and you can easily fill in the remaining 7 with 1350IP champs if all you care about is the number. There are meta picks in there anyway, so it's not even that bad of an idea.

20 isn't that many. You can just fill up on a bunch of 450-1350 champs and get a number of decent picks in the process.

Is 10,800 IP but gives you a bunch of good champs to cover all roles. You'd only need 8 more.

Think of it like this: the more champs riot makes you get, the more practice with your favorite champs you are going to be getting in normals. That's more chances to get good.

Free to play champions are not available in Ranked queues, only champions that you own.

You need at least 20 champions to play Ranked because 9 of them might get banned (not 10, guys; you don't ban your own champ). Then you have 11 left and let's say you are last pick. 9 of your champions got picked and you have only 2 choices which by the way might not be the champions suitable for the position you were assigned. That's why you should better have more than 20 champions - make sure to own at least 4 for each position.
