Ranked Too High After Provisional Matches?

Hey everyone,

I just finished my 10 provisional matches going 5-5. Afterwards I was placed in Silver III but I don't think I am on par with the other players. I felt confident I would start out in Bronze since I am pretty new to LoL, which I would have been happy with. I try pretty hard and can make some good plays but I think at best Bronze I or Silver V would have been a good start...

Can anyone shed some light on the way that 10 game ranking system works and maybe give some tips on better champs to play. I try and play Support Soraka or ADC Ashe, but if I get stuck elsewhere I usually try and get JG and use YI or WuKong.

Any help would be nice, Thanks

Your placement matches have A LOT of weight in LP compared to how much you normally gain. The first match gives the most, decreasing over the 10 games until you reach normal LP amounts. If you were winning games the system predicted you should win, and losing games the system thought you should lose, then it's perfectly normal to get Silver III after placements. If you continue to play, you'll climb or fall to where you need to be so don't worry about where you are currently. Just play your best.

As for tips for climbing, focus on playing your favorite champions while in ranked games, and if you want to practice a new champion do it in normal draft pick. You don't need to sacrifice LP while you're learning the mechanics of a new champion. Learning the "OP" champions is a strat that some recommend, but I don't. The "OP" pool of champs is always changing, and it takes a lot of skill in itself to play a large pool of champions EFFECTIVELY. Someone playing a normal power champion that they've mastered will almost always beat a person playing an "OP" champion, but they only have average skill on.

I found the same. Won 6-4 in my placements and got Silver II. Was feeling confident. Then started playing the ranked games and kept up a steady stream of losses down to Silver V where things have started to balance out. I wonder why the placement matches went so well?

Because placements is only 10 games. That pool is very small for a sample size. You're bound to win games you shouldn't, and on the flip side, lose games you should win.

One time I had two idiots in their placements that were bronze 5 material, they were in gold 2, riot's mmr system is complete trash.
