Wtf is Matchmaking?
How are you supposed to climb when Rito puts four Unranked guys on your team, when you're the only silver (scrub), and the entire enemy team is silver??? How is that even fair

Placement elo starts in low silver i believe
That's just the way it works broski.
You have to place unranked players in matches with ranked players, otherwise Riot would have no benchmark to determine that player's skill.
The odds of an unranked player actually having the skills to be ranked Silver or Bronze are significantly greater than being ranked Gold or higher.
Unranked players who consistently do poorly in Silver matches will be ranked Bronze
If they break fairly even, they will be ranked Silver
If they preform above average they will be ranked Gold
High performance and consistent victories (within reason) will rank Platinum.
Platinum 1 is the highest possible placement after unranked.
Matchmaking and rank are slightly different. Everybody has some hidden matchmaking numbers that they use for matchmaking. For unranked people there is often an overlap of this and silver/bronze. i.e., before some people even play ranked the system thinks they belong roughly in silver.
