Supporting For Randoms

I've always been attracted to the support role, but I generally only play with friends. I'm used to having insane synergy and playing absurdly aggressive. I've only ever been able to excel on tankier champions and have been looking to expand my horizons. So to all the ADC and SUPPORT mains, I'm looking for some tips and advice to keep in mind to be able to make my, and my ADC's, botlane experience much cleaner.

I was "raised" opposite of you. Due to being a Support Main for random people, I'm only good with ranged Supports and Healers. You never know what to expect with a new person in the lane every game. I have had many (perhaps to many) bad experiences with initiators not named Thresh, and as a result, I suck with melee tanks.

I personally main Zyra, Morgana, Karma, Thresh, and Malzahar (in process)

Tips and advice for a support main that likes aggression? Okay! (High gold/low plat support main myself.)

  • Pay very close attention to where the Jungler is at all times, that way you know if its safe to actually be aggressive and dive. If you go in, and you wipe because of the jungler poppin' out - You should really rethink and pull back.
  • Keep a ward in the river. It's the most popular jungle gank route.
  • Mastering poke and lane trading is what will give you the most success. Knowing when its safe to sneak in damage is absolutely critical to winning bot lane. This is fundamentally the most important thing in bot lane, in my opinion - It even trumps warding.
  • Know when you can dive/follow for a kill. This is a learned skill. If you flash into them, can you kill them if they don't flash?
  • CC and Mobility are VERY important for bot lane, Doubly so if you like aggression. Consider picking champions who have these things in spades.
  • Know when to play safe. If your losing your lane, or you are not confident you can trade well, then don't do it! Just play safe. If you die more than once or twice botlane, during early laning phases, you have already given your team a huge, huge problem.
