Shield Scaling - AP vs AD

I've wondered this for a long time now. For example - why does Riven's shield scale off bonus AD, meanwhile a champion like Lee Sin's scales off AP? Who the hell would build AP on Lee just to gain shield strength? I know Lee is still strong in the right hands, but this has never made sense to me. Watching Riven gain basically another free health bar versus Lee basically gaining enough to take a few minion hits is a little ridiculous.

It encourages Riven to build glass Cannon and still function imo.

Lee's means that if he want to be durable he needs to build tanky.

Yeah, but with Lee's continuous nerfs to his damage, seems like a good time to change that shield scaling to bonus AD and not AP, not to mention Lee is all skill shots where Riven is not.

Haha, no. He doesn't really need buff as long as he's such a stable pick in the jg.

The idea is lee has a lot of mobility to get around and into fights without taking a huge amount of damage, and a lot of utility with his kick and insec plays. The downside to that is supposed to be he either won't do much damage directly, or that he'll blow up promptly by putting himself in that situation.

If he had an AD scaling shield, then he could go full ad, do huge damage, still do insec plays, and be able to shield himself to avoid being blown up, which would make him pretty darn oppressive.

He's still one of the most picked jungler of all times. No need to jump the gun & buff him out of the blue.
