Need to Lower Standards for S or at least explain the system better

There has been multiple times where I'll play matches where I will go like 5--0-6 with Sivir in ranked (for example) and only get an A+ even though i have the most or second most farm/gold of both teams ... which didn't really bother me, I'd be like wtf, but now its going to be used to gain character mastery levels.... if I have a perfect game especially on ranked and the other team surrenders how does that not justify an S .. .I mean S- at least. I'm sure many many people have this same issue and if the standards can't be relaxed or changed so outstanding performances aren't S rated then explain why they're not at least.

The grading system takes your KDA, the amount of gold you had by the end of the match, CS, and the amount of wards placed and destroyed, among other things, and compares that to other people's performance on the same champion in the same position more or less around the same MMR (implied).

It just means that other people do better.

MMR is not a factor, you're compared to all performances on a given champ in a given role. (While on one hand you might think that means it's nigh impossible for sub-plat players to manage S ranks, the fact they're playing against worse opponents does apparently counter balance things so people of all ranks do occasionally manage S ranks, although higher ranked people do tend to have an easier time..)

The grade depends on your percentile performance, versus particular numerical goals, so if you're in the top 2% of all performances, you'll get an S+ for example.

I mean, I got the information from Redmercy's video, with the quote from Riot stating that it compares your performance to others and Red suggests that it might be based on MMR, and I would assume that it is so since yeah it should be nigh impossible for anyone below plat to get S ranks if the Grades were truly comparing player's performances across elos. I'm not ranked yet but I would assume I play like a bronzie, and I got S ranks more than once or twice on my four big champions before mastery 6 & 7 came out, two of those being highly popular (Yasuo since he's Yasuo, and Kindred since they're in meta).

Whether MMR was a factor came up in a riot FAQ around the time of the release, so unless the rioter was mistaken, then mmr isn't a factor. They said they did examine the relationship between MMR and rank, but found even bronzes were managing the occasional S rank (while pro players would get them pretty consistently), so they left MMR as a non-factor.

If you main a particular champion, your skill with the champion is prone to be better than your overall rank might suggest, so combined with a particularly stompy match you can well end up having a top tier performance even if your overall skill level is bronze. Another thing to consider is that in bronze, things tend to be insane bloody clown fiestas with like 10 kills by 5 minutes sometimes, while in pro matches sometimes first blood isn't until 15 minutes in. As a result if you're actually good in lower elo's, you could well get a super inflated KDA compared to what challenger players are managing (which probably offsets the inevitably lacking CS/min that lower elo players tend to have).

You getting an S rank once or twice is fairly consistent with that as an unranked/bronze level player perhaps. I'm 'only' plat 5 myself, but I pretty consistently get S- on janna (who I main), and I expect if I were diamond+ or whatever I'd be able to bump that up to consistent S's or S+'s.

Top percentage of games within your elo based on the champ/lane you've chosen is the best theory I've heard.
