WHY IS TEAM BUILDER NOT AVAILABLE FOR RANKED?

Taken from FAQ. (My thoughts followed) > WHY IS TEAM BUILDER NOT AVAILABLE FOR RANKED? > _ Because Team Builder is a brand new way to handle champion select, we started with basic elements such as choosing the champion, position and role you intend to play in a given match. We know that the ban and pick order mechanics of the draft process are critical to the competitive nature of ranked mode, and we’re not quite sure yet how these would fit into Team Builder._

I honestly don't see any reason you can't implement parts of Team Builder into the current ranked queue or even create a secondary queue.

Some things I considered: 1. Remove champion select from Rank Team Builder queue 2. Increase minimum champions required

Match making could be improved by tracking champion and role experience and pair you with enemies and opponents with similar stats. In the lower levels of ranked matches, people end up trolling, fighting, arguing, blaming and flaming over a simple thing like, not getting their role.

One other quality that could be improved is banning. Maybe develop a system that would allow the following: 1. Each player selects 3 champions to ban 2. The system checks for multiple occurrences and places them in a pool for selection 3. When it comes time to ban, the captain will select from the created pool of champions 4. In a case where not enough champions occurred multiple times from voting, either create the pool by random selection, or a list of common bans from the day or recent matches within that tier.

I strongly feel that a Ranked Team Builder queue would offer a lot of improvements to the quality of ranked matches, and could be developed slowly and thoroughly along side the current system and not drastically affect the Ranked queue as a whole. Taking small steps, and allowing to players to chose a queue they like. I don't mind filling whatever role is needed, but some players only want and/or are good at a specific role. And a lot of times when I tell my team that I will fill, and I am not last pick, no one talks. :P

Thanks. Comments?

Dude, next season we are getting ranked team builder. Last I read, you have to queue for two roles and you will get the one in the least demand. From that point bans and selections happen very similar to the way they do now. If I understand correctly.

EDIT: Google Ranked Team Builder, lots of info there for you.

Yes and no. I don't really understand why it doesn't exist. My idea of a ranked Team Builder would be utterly simplistic. You don't pick a champion. You pick lane and role. That's it. It matches you with a team, and you "ready up" your "role" after a brief discussion of whom everyone hopes to play and wants to ban. The system matches you to an opposing team and then you go through the existing draft and ban process. There may still be some "hard feelings" in the pre match stage, but dodging a Team Builder queue has no impact unless it reached the Draft process.

There are a lot of times after I get matched with a team that I think "Man, I would do much better with X Champ than the one I brought for this team composition". And honestly, I would rather switch champs than search for a new team.

Sure, it'd be good if they could implement this, but I'm not sure how it could be done while ban phase still exists in its current form. I'd also be hesitant to have it be a computerized random selection of bans -- if you've played One for All, you might notice how frustrating it is to have everyone locked into a champion only one person wanted to play.

The other issue is that you might only know how to play a couple of champs in each role, and those champs could be banned. In current ranked, you can adapt to that. Or if you see the enemy is going all AD or very tanky, you might want to pick a different champion in a different role. Teambuilder is by design not flexible, but sometimes ranked requires flexibility. Of course, I suspect the other issue would be slightly more practical -- you think it's hard to find a Support in regular Teambuilder? Good luck finding one in Ranked Teambuilder.

Anyway those issues might be able to be resolved, but there are some pretty weighty concerns and so I understand why it's taken them so long to iron things out.
