Killing mikaels to try and force athenes into play was a bad idea.

Ever since the changes to athenes hardly anyone was building the item in rift for a reason. When playing a healing or shielding support, items building from forbidden idol were much more beneficial as they promoted stronger heals and shields and stacked with windspeakers blessing. The item that they gave us as compensation is far too expensive and while it's fun to play around with its gimmicky and unreliable and in my opinion doesn't support healthy gameplay for supports because the vast range is so big and that promotes the idea that you don't always have to be doing something with your team. Not to mention most games I play I don't even make it far enough into the game to build redemption unless it makes it past 20 minutes. Whereas mikaels was always a strong and viable support item with a reasonable cool down that enabled support players to even survive fights at times by baiting the enemy into focusing them and using the active to restore some health. There were many other uses for it as well which made it a great item and even a great first buy after sight stone for the supports I mentioned before. Maybe if athenes built out of forbidden idol it would make more sense to purchase it, but it just doesn't seem sensible now. It just doesn't provide the stats a support needs.

Your title doesn't really make sense, how is Mikael's dead? You might also want to consider spacing out your typing a bit so it's not just a big wall of text with your already ambiguous "points" lost inside.

Athene's is an item for aggressive supports that do decent damage, or poke a lot, and then get rewarded with extra healing. The really ironic thing is that most of the champions that can do good damage to generate good blood charges don't have a heal or a shield, and most of the champions with a heal or a shield either don't benefit from Athene's or their damage isn't high enough to make use of it. The one champ I've seen use it really effectively is Karma, Sona also has the potential to use it well, and you COULD build it on Lulu, Bard, Soraka or Nami, but their damage past early game is pretty bad, and I don't really think they can generate enough blood charges for Athene's to be worth it over Mikael's or Redemption, and Athene's is hurt even further by the relatively low cap on blood charges. I think it would benefit a lot from a greatly increased blood charge cap, a cap on the amount of blood charges able to be expended at once, and a cooldown on how often blood charges can affect a single target; if it gave you just one good heal to turn a fight around, then that niche would suit it just fine, much better than the current one does.

Redemption could definitely be useful, its problem is that it's not solo queue friendly. If people were reliably chaining cc, or you could ask everyone to group together so you could drop your 539 hp(at level 18, just under 600 with windspeaker's) heal on everyone, then it would be great. In solo queue where allies and enemies alike could just walk out? Nah, not so good unless you're there in person to lock the opponent down or you have time to type out what you want to do, or you share your strategy with your solo Q team earlier on and hope they remember it in the heat of a teamfight. In a 5 man group you could actually have people to facilitate the damage and make full use of the heal. Only change I would like to see to this is a buff to its stats and an increased cost; as is it's really cheap and you honestly get what you pay for stat-wise, which leaves a lot of its use riding on its active.

Mikeal's is still pretty great, though I'll miss the heal. Cleansing cc at the right moment is heavily rewarded with the movement speed buff and slow immunity; it's been turned into an anti-engage AND a possible counter-engage item all in one, whereas before it only functioned as the former. It also gives that really good regen passive, and the highest +% to heals and shielding.
