Well-Intentioned Leaverbuster is Frustrating In Reality

Hi Riot and Lolers,

TLDR - I have a simple suggestion: change the leaverbuster characteristics for bot games and make the time limits shorter to reflect their less serious nature (as opposed to ranked).

I have played casually for several years, mostly by myself in AI or ARAM games for in the downtime that I have between work or school. I had not posted in the past because I had been turned off by the incredibly negative portion of this game's community and I was never heavily invested enough to contribute anything as a mostly solo--for-fun player. In regard to that, I am happy with Riot's well-intentioned efforts to reduce the negativity that surrounds much of this game, a game that should be as fair and enjoyable as possible and a safe space for casual players and bloodthirsty competitors alike.

My latest trouble, though, is leaverbuster. While it is a well-intentioned attempt to bridge the gap between the many reasons people leave games and the reality that all 5 players are generally needed in LoL, it has left me frustrated and turned me off from playing.

My current wait time before each game is 10 minutes due to a disconnect/reconnect in a bot game, a bot game that I had to leave, and a computer failure that resulted in a disc/reconnect in an unranked blind pick.

For those two reconnects, they took less than two minutes to do so and, while I acknowledge the logic "that still could be 10% of the game," it was still incredibly frustrating to see that leaverbuster continues to give broad punishment for things it cannot track (i.e. computer failure, internet loss, server issues, dinosaurs). The frustration is compounded by the fact that now I have to wait 10 minutes for intermediate bot games that players around level 30 generally regard as easy win games with end game scores usually around the 40 to 4 mark.

I understand the intention to try to keep people in ranked games to ensure a fair and enjoyable experience. Still, as a primarily bot/unranked player, I would like the leaverbuster times to reflect its much less serious OR please work on addressing things that leaverbuster cannot recognize (server, internet loss, etc). The 10 minute wait times for 1 bot game and 2 disconnect/reconnects is incredibly frustrating and a deterrent to logging on at all.

I appreciate all that you do, Riot, and I hope you understand my frustration. Keep up the good work!

So you "had to leave" one game (if it was really so important that you absolutely had to leave that very moment because your house was on fire or something, would you really care about getting dumped into a penalty queue?), disconnected from another (because you don't pay for reliable internet), and had your computer crash out of another because it's held together with spit and bailing wire? And all of this happened in a short period of time, otherwise the Leaverbuster penalty wouldn't have whacked you for racking those events up over six months.

Now maybe you're simply the most unlucky person on the planet and really didn't "deserve" the Leaverbuster penalty, but given the odds of that compared to the likelihood of my above comments being fairly perceptive and your teammates suffering as a result...would you really want to change it?

Hi Dethryn,

I appreciate your feedback but feel that you are starting from negative assumptions to reach somewhat silly and fallacious conclusions.

These three situations did occur in a short period of time and in that case, I admit, the system responded correctly. You missed the point of my argument, though. My teammates did suffer in the unranked game (we lost handily, and my short absence certainly didn't help), but in bot games the computer opponents are normally roflstomped by level 30 players, even if one or two people leave or reconnect.

Because bot games have neither the seriousness or importance of PVP in any capacity, I think that it should be reflected in the system and the punishment be scaled appropriately. Right now the leaverbuster affects all game types, even those that generally don't suffer from disconnects and reconnects (many bot games). I feel as thought the system is needlessly heavy-handed.

You're welcome to disagree, but I think you overstate your "perceptiveness." I'm glad the system is working well for you!
