Question as far as ADC. Should I be more aggressive because I play fairly conservative when I play ADC. I will mainly focus farm and occasionally throw an attack at the other ADC. This method so far hasn't seem to really work for me snuffing their ADC but it has prevented deaths on my behave.
It all depends on the champion you are playing, what support you have, and what the enemy is playing. Some champions (Braum and Lucian for example) are very good for combo poking from relative safety, but they can also play passive if pushed too far, and can poke back on unwanted enemy attacks.
General rule of thumb is if you can poke safely and not lose too much farm, and if it actually does something.... (shooting a tanky support that just regenerates if you poke/enemy adc just healing via life steal).... do it. Cait traps, always shoot if you can. Takes half a second if that to shoot them even if you just shot a minion for farm. If your support stuns, and you can poke and not lose farm, poke.
A new favorite combo for me is playing Zilean with a Jhin..... both of us using Deathfire Touch.... me double bomb, stun, causing my DFT to proc. Jhin shoots that W bind, procs his DFT easily, and can occasionally shoot off a bouncing bomb too. Then my bomb explodes and causes another one of my DFT procs. This is a form of pretty hefty safe poking, that worked amazing vs a Tahm Kench support and Ashe adc.... since both of them are fairly immobile. Thus making it safe poking.
Lucian or Vayne on the otherhand, with a Thresh or Blitzcrank support on their side..... The adc would have been mobile enough to dodge the 2nd bomb, thus making the Jhin unable to W as accurately, and they often try to capitalize on abilities being down like Zilean's double bomb. 1 good hook and their poke will undoubtedly far exceed ours. Often resulting in a death, or flash wastes, ultimate useage from Zilean, etc.
