Why doesn't league have a "safe to leave" like DOTA?

DarkPh0enix··66 votes·3,927 views

It is all good if someone AFKs during the first minutes, but what if someone leaves after 20 minutes? Give him 5 or even 10 minutes to reconnect and after that, make the game safe to leave. Some trolls might be salty and say "no" to every surrender. Why waste our time like that? Riot might think that we should all be happy and have an anime like "NEVEEEER GIVE UP JOHN CENAAAAA' attitude, but that is very unrealistic. I don't want to play a 40 minute game that is clearly going to be lost because our ADC is 2 kills ahead and thinks he can 1v5 everyne cough cough VAYNE MAINS cough cough.

Thanks.

Do you even know how the safe to leave works for DotA2?

If it is after some time the game still counts. All the safe to leave feature does is allow you to start a new game because there is no /ff option in DotA2. You still get a loss unless you play it out and win 4v5.

Yeah, I don't mind taking the loss. What I mind is dragging it out for 15 more minutes because some folks always vote no on surrender.

I've been willing to believe in some games, and I've been rewarded with the W. Other times, I cry.

ye but we are talking the 100% certain that the game is lost

I never vote yes

Nowhere did OP say he shouldn't get a loss for it. He said we should just be able to leave and not have to wait 40 mins to be out of it.

DarkPh0enix4 votes

But you don't get low priority queue, which is a huge plus. I was going to lose anyway, so why not cut my losses and just go to a new game or walk away?

ShaolinToilet3 votes

One of their players could go afk and you could win

Breaku5 votes

If half of your team wants to keep playing, you shouldn't just get to decide to leave

DarkPh0enix6 votes

What about the other half? They might not see it in their best interest to continue playing a 4v5 and they shouldn't.

Downvoted for bringing a valid point

It definitely should. No reason to be forced to play on in 4v5 if someone left past the remake window.

Mirkhail4 votes

They fear that people will start to flame someone until he afk so they can leave without penalty. They fear this will increase toxicity.

DarkPh0enix4 votes

That's stupid and we still have the "report" and "mute" buttons. Any sources for what you said?

Irelia Bot1 votes

that is the general conclusion the players have reached for this not being in place.

I do not recall any rioters saying this being the reasoning though.

RookPusher3 votes

In the majority of 4v5's I play, the 4 team wins. If you don't spend 50% of your time typing about how this always happens to you, how you're trapped in ELO hell, and instead push objectives to get super minions, you almost always win.

Just remember two things:

  1. Most players are stupid, emotionally-based swag-mongers. They only do things so they can brag about themselves in /allchat.

  2. Super minions never do this.

Therefore, Super Minions win games.

Any decent 5 man team will be grouped 24/7 and push one lane. If anyone from the 4-man team attempts to splitpush, the 5 man team can dive them and destroy them. Even if 2 people die, 3 people can push better than 1.

RookPusher2 votes

Life isn't as simple as you're suggesting. You're imaging perfect scenarios where everyone does what they should. That's not an argument it's a fantasy.

There are ways to deal with that situation and it's typically because the 4 man got more powerful in the short run. Admittedly, the longer the game goes, the more it favors the 5 man. If you're on the 4, you need to end it ASAP. If you're the 5 man, stall them.

Nami in Bush3 votes

if it reaches 40 minutes it's winnable lmao

mikemcparty2 votes

Two teams at full build in a 4 v 5? Not winnable unless the other team screws up... Hard.

notice me Sin pi2 votes

if there's Yasuo in the 4-man team, it's definitely and absolutely possible

mikemcparty1 votes

Oh, there's a Yasuo ? Make it a 3 v 5.

Nami in Bush1 votes

If it's a 4v5 the game shouldnt take 40 minutes unless the enemy team fucks up hard.

mikemcparty1 votes

You're right. So the chance of winning a 4 v 5 requires the enemy team to mess up not only once, but multiple times throughout the game.

Leetri1 votes

If the game has reached 40 minutes they already have messed up multiple times. All it takes is a bad play under the enemy tower or a bad Baron call and the 4 man team is back in the game.

mikemcparty2 votes

You are missing the point. Winning a 4 v 5 is not dependent on the team that is down a player, it is dependent on the other team messing up. If a team only has a chance to come back if the other team makes an excessive amount of mistakes, then I don't think that is fair/healthy. That is my opinion. I like being able to win by making good plays, not by the other team making mistakes (which is less likely).

hallfro1 votes

I can definitely see both points that are being made here. I would like to bring this point, up, however: There are ways to force mistakes in League, most notably baiting baron or split-pushing. If the 4v5 game has reached 40 minutes, then honestly both teams are on mostly equal footing. Of course, in a full-on head-to-head teamfight, the team of 5 will likely win, but there are plenty of ways to play around being down a member and out-smarting the enemy to gain an advantage (e.g. baiting baron and the enemy face-checks, automatically putting them at a disadvantage).

Just being the devil's advocate here to remind you guys that 4v5 isn't ENTIRELY dependent on the 5-man team screwing up massively.

mikemcparty1 votes

I totally get what you are saying, but if the 5 man team simply groups mid and pushes, then the game is over. If the 4 man breaks off to split push, then that makes it worse. When I have been down 4 v 5, it feels like my success is dependent on the other team really playing terribly and that isn't a good feeling.

The same reason League doesn't have dozens of other things DOTA2 has. Riot is a bad game development company that doesn't reinvest as much money into their game as Valve.

Geauxx2 votes

once again, it's abusable.

Meta Phyton2 votes

Yeah I agree with you. I think if people did not feel bound to their teammates who are toxic and miserable, and felt free to abandon those experiences where people are trolling or really miserable, the game would lighten up a lot. Having the freedom to walk away without being punished would help a lot to reduce the power of toxic players to ruin it for everyone else. But being bound to them means having little freedom to say who we have to play with.

Rito pls.

h5LYF41Lam2 votes

all i want from riot at this point is the ability to pause the game before the minions spawn for a minute, its before the minions spawn so theres nothing to abuse, its just a minute and it could help someone who wants to restart and doesnt want to get the leave.

Matthewisthename2 votes

I support this, there is games where people will leave and there is a troll or two who will not FF. If someone should leave during a game, after like 5 minutes you should be able to leave and take a loss and not be punished.

Just to clarify, you won't get banned by leaving games unless you are already on a 20 minute leaverbuster.

spaghetti code client. Potato Code. LUL Client.exe

Dota2's client is BY FAR way more superior than whatever 2004 client Riot uses for their game. That's that.

Spaceman5pff2 votes

Well Riot did just push out an entirely new client, built new from the ground up.

Matthewisthename2 votes

Joke is on you, it would be server sided not client sided.

How would the game ever get to 40 minutes 4v5? Don't you know that EVERY game bot feeds 10 kills by 6 minutes and the game ends by 30 to whoever got bot turret first

Honestly, if three players want to quit but a feeding duo doesn't, I think we're entitled to go off and do something more productive.

ANAISGONNAKILLU1 votes

Yes, like if youre playng league you are afraid to leave because of the ban even if it occurs by lagging. Mobile Legends has bots that play if you go afk and it is better because players aren't afraid and it's better for the team.

Randomonium1 votes

I'd rather have an AFK than a bot. The AI is absolutely horrible and basically would give the team an extra 10 kills within 10 minutes.

Never seen a player rejecting a clear 4v5 Surrender without a huge gold-lead. That is... I never seen one doing so who didn't play with a bunch of whiny flaming kids! Spamming Surr/FF20 since Minute 5 CAUSING the 4v5 in the first place!
