List of Everything I Found Bad (And Good) About the New Client
So today, I was given the opprotunity to update my client to the new Beta client, which I was very thankful for, as the old one needed some work. Now, obviously, Riot Games worked very hard to make the newest client exceptionally easy to navigate, and appealing in both visual and auditory senses, but there are some things that can of course be improved or changed for the better, hence why I've decided to make this post in the discussion section.
So, first off, the new client is very visually appealing, a very needed, and well deserved change for the game, but for the sake of simplicity and usability, some things absolutely need to be addressed. First and foremost, I found it exceptionally easy to misclick when attempting to accept the game invite upon queue, as the "Decline" button, although smaller than the "Accept" button, was directly beneath it. While symmetry is exceptional, and for many people is viewed as essential, I happened to make this very irritating misclick a total of three times, which then prompted the client to keep me from playing the game for awhile. While justified, as prompted by my own idiocy, I found it rather annoying nonetheless. My personal recommendation is to either make the "Decline" button further away from the "Accept" button, or to simply make it smaller.
Secondly, the startup sound, as of to notify the summoner when the client has fully loaded, was extremely loud and high-pitched, as I assume it was meant to be, after all, it's supposed to alert the player that their client has started, and they're ready to make a game. However, with a headset on, as once again prompted by my own idiocy, I was given both an earache and a heart attack. Perhaps something just slightly lower in pitch would work nicely.
Next, more of an opinionated remark, the client menu is seemingly smaller than the prior client menu, and it has a less-clear border. It looks very exceptional in terms of the splash, and how the buttons no longer look like boxes, but more like actual tabs that a player can go to. However, for those who enjoyed the easy to read, large font of the prior client, it seems a bit unfortunate to have to squint to read some of the next, and that one cannot simply change the dimensions of the client window. Now perhaps I may need glasses, or I simply don't understand how to enlarge the client window, and once again my idiocy has surpassed my means of operation, but nonetheless, I'd love to see this addressed.
Finally, I'll go over all the positive things I've noticed with the client. Now I recognize that my complaints may go unnoticed, and for the large majority, uncalled for, but nonetheless I felt making a discussion couldn't hurt in terms of making the client, and the game itself, more fun and enjoyable. My complains are few and far between, and are obviously minor issues, nothing in comparison to the bugs and glitches that some users are experiencing with the client in its beta form. However, for all its shortcomings, however many you may believe there to be, it has many positive upsides.
Number one, the visual appeal of the new client is astounding, and everyone who worked on it at Riot Games should be absolutely proud of their hard work, and for the amount of time they spent on it. The animations and audio of the loading/updating screen were remarkable, as were the animations and sounds following every button pressed, or even hovered over (Although, we could do without the sound activating on certain buttons, or at least with an option to manually disable it within the client itself). The amount of time and effort that was put into the new client is evident, and appreciated, so on the behalf of all the summoners out there, thank you so much Riot, we (For the most part) really appreciate it.
The maneuverability of the client is incredible, and the loading time between being on one menu and going to another one was insanely fast, and even appealing. Every single moment of using the new splash was absolutely enjoyable, and I loved exploring, and finding all the additions that they'd made to my profile, allowing me to see Flex Queue ranked placements, as well as to see the types of champions I've played recently, and even the visual appeal of all the smaller things, such as the IP font, and the easily-understood rune and mastery changes that made it so much easier to tell things apart. The champion splashes of the background, and the loading screens, everything was flushed out to be the best client that I believe League has ever had. I look forward to all the small issues and shortcomings, however many that Riot finds, to be resolved, so that the client can be even better. I myself feel as though I haven't explored the full extent of the client, but I look forward to all the little discoveries and such that I'm sure I'll be making in the near future. As a matter of fact, is the champion splash on the profile only
Yasuo, or is it simply the most common recently-played champion, as I would love to figure that out for myself (Yes I've been playing Yasuo, no I don't care what you think about that.)
Overall, I believe the client is incredible, and I, along with many other summoners, look forward to the completion and adjustment to the new client. Thank you so much everyone at Riot games, and in the community itself, for both working so hard to make something great, or make it even better, and also for simply reading this mediocre list of complaints and compliments. I truly appreciate it. Keep up the outstanding work Riot.
