Let's talk about wave management. Part 1: The 1st 2 waves

fluffyflareon··2 votes·2,726 views

I'm going to start this thread by saying that I have no idea what wave management is or what any of the theory is. This thread is mostly meant to be a place where we can discuss and learn/teach others about what we want to achieve and how to manipulate the wave to our liking.

This part is about the 1st 2 waves of the game and how people set up these waves to hopefully shape how the rest of the laning phase plays out. Any theory or advice whether it be general or matchup/champion/lane specific is welcome. Sources that can help others understand on what to do or how to do something is also appreciated.

Finally, how does the jungler affect any of this (if at all)?

Some stats about the 1st 2 waves:

minions spawn @: 1:05 minions hit each other @ side: 1:38 mid: 1:28

minion gold,caster: 14 melee: 21 total: 105

minion XP, caster: 29 melee: 59 total: 274 XP needed to reach lv2: 280

melee minions die @ side: 1:54 mid: 1:45

2nd wave spawns @: 1:35 2nd minions hits middle @ side: 2:08 2nd wave minions xp and gold amount is the same as 1st wave

If anyone has the stats for how XP is shared in the botlane that'd be appreciated

If you intend to bully someone or get early priority in lane. Try to arrive first and start hitting the minions before your opponent can hit his. The idea is to get your wave pushing into him. In a match between two lane bullies, whoever gets their wave pushing first usually wins trades. Often this can decide a lane from very early on. It's the main reason I hate give top lane leashes while playing champions like Fiora. Leashing yields lane control to your opponent, assuming they didn't have to leash as well. From that point, all you can do is let them push in and try to farm under tower. The only exception is if you have better wave clear than him, in which case you can use your AOE to thin out his wave faster which will give you back control of the lane eventually.
