What exactly is the point of smurfing?
Other than the obvious advantage of beating on people much less experienced, I don't see much of a reason to own a smurf account. But clearly I must be missing something, as they are quite common.![]()

One advantage is if you're teaching a friend how to play they don't have to automatically get stomped by a bunch of level 30's when they're level 5.
That's a good point, I suppose it would certainly help with that.
That's what I use mine for. I also play nice in the low level games, and try to offer whatever advice I can without being a dick about it. Which is to say I don't play things like double snowball Katarina on my smurf.
I wanted a new account with nothing but champions with hard CC, something to help me train my teamwork and such, but that's not really the same as smurfing so, ehh...
But why not just unlock the CC champs on your main account? That's the part I don't understand.
Nothing but champions with hard CC.
I have a lot of champions with no CC on this account already.
Like Alex said I have an alt account that I use for when friends start playing. I've no intention of getting it to Level 30.
For me is that I have my fair share of local friends, but most of them are at Silver level, so matchmaking kind of beats their asses when they playwith me, and Riot won't allow me to have a "child" account on my own, and buying accounts is forbidden, so I have to level up a new one so I can play with them without having them destroyed.
Not very consistent though, it's still level 15 :I
For Pro/Semi-pro players it's useful for practicing without revealing anything.
I've considered smurfing so I could try out champions I'm inexperienced with without having to potentially face really high level players while doing it.
There are always Bot games and normal matches. I don't bring someone in ranked unless I* know* I can do good with them.
I have over 3k normal games and 500 ranked games in season 4 on my main.
If I want a fresh start for ranked only playing champions I'm best at it would make sense to use an alternate account.
This way I get matched with players that equal my skill with champions I'm best at rather than account where I play a little bit of everything.
Or if I wanted an account to play other champs because it gets boring rotating the same 4-5 champs and I don't want to risk the mmr of my main but still want to play ranked because I like the reward of a ladder... smurfing.
I play when I get tired of playing on my main. Smurfing let's me have fun in ranked (by not having to pick my main or top tier picks every game) and explore new builds. Don't tell me to play normals.
