So I had a Wukong and a Vi support in my past two games. Thanks positional matchmaking.

Now people don't give a single fuck when they get autofilled. "Hey, I'm autofilled, maybe I'll just play something safe like Maokai top or lulu support for the best shot at winning" to "lemme just first time gangplank cause lul".

I guarantee a Plat 4 jungler will have a better shot at winning playing Maokai top in Plat 4 than playing first time gangplank top in Gold 3. Whoever came up with the idea of positional ranking must not play this game.

Yeah, technically that Vi and Wukong were playing their "best" champions and I didn't say a single god damn word to them because no point in flaming. But they clearly were not trying their best. Wukong went AFK half the time in lane to watch youtube or some shit and just sat there and died to auto attacks. Vi was just flaming everyone from min 1.

Literally EVERY TIME I see someone autofilled they do not give a single fuck. At least before when people got autofilled they'd clearly be unskilled - but actually tried their hardest.

Riot needs to start banning people for this.

Imo Rioters salary should be autofilled with value between 1$ and full salarys worth. I'm sure they'd fix the issue within half a day lol

Autofill is an impossible issue to fix. Because of bottlenecking queues would go up to infinity time. Autofill made 100x worse by positional matchmaking.

Honestly I would much rather be autofilled and have the chance of going into a game quickly rather than waiting a very very long time for matchmaking to even consider a game for me. If high elo queue time is as bad as I have heard and have some times seen because of streams then it is a really good thing that we have autofill lol

Not only that, the alternative to autofill was expanding the elo pool. So you would have challengers in 20 minutes queue for a diamond 2 game. Same difference between a Diamond 2 and a Plat 4 getting matched.

Opt-in selection: Faster queues or better matchmaking?

Opt-in: You will get autofilled / can be autofilled.

Opt-out: Everyone in their game gets their primary or secondary role, guaranteed.

I have no issue with 10 minute queue times if it meant there was no possibility of getting autofilled teammates in ranked.

Has nothing to do with positional ranking and everything to do with people being jerks. Positional ranks are here to stay, get used to it. Personally I like them and thank Riot for making it happen. Now if they could just find a way to keep smurfs out of ranked play the game would be much better.

I 99% agree with you, but there is one detail: yes, positional ranking is partly to blame. Sure, there would be no problem if people weren't a-holes, but without positional ranking, people can't just throw the game when they are auto-filled. With positional ranking, they can. It's not the root of the issue, and it's a good thing and I thank Riot too. But it's still an enabling factor in this issue.

How does positional rank allow jerks to "just throw a game"? Loosing an off position match brings down your main position. There are penalties across all of your ranks for your performance in any of the ranks.

I honestly just think some jerks are trying to make the system look bad, when all they are doing is exposing themselves to reports. I'm just happy riot doesn't charge me for reporting people, because I do it a lot.

Very small penalties for your main position when you are in an off-position. Especially the first few times. Penalties that are 4 to 6 times smaller than in the old system (3-5 LP now, compared to a full 20 LP before), at the beginning. So positional rank allow jerks to just throw a game 4 times as easily.

Lol. People will always be assholes. New system just gives them a free pass to dick around when autofilled.

they already have the means to, but it is kind of a moot point when to properly determine how to create or use a new strategy requires a ton of games played involving such strategy unless it is miraculously just good right away, which is a rarity and tends to show how broken something really is

smurfing is meant to be for players to practice safely, but it gets abused

SciFi Scrivener2 votes

Smurfs go against the purpose of ranked play. Safe practice is what norms are for. Ranked play should only be used for live games, not practice.

3TWarrior1 votes

normals also have an MMR assigned and unlike ranked, you have no idea where you are currently placed

if you try to take a strategy that works against silver players but loses against anything above that as an example, you would be wasting a lot of time and LP just to try a new strategy

normals are for playing the game, leveling up and having fun, but not for going all out. In most games, you can't even get an accurate assessment of your opponents' skill level

I think the concept of positional matchmaking is good in theory.

The execution however, not as much

I have never been auto filled under the new system

What I don't get is how come autofill even exists in ranked? People pick specific roles because it's what they're good at or are familiar with... If you take a jungle main and throw him into a support role just to make queues faster then you might be dooming the rest of that team. It always feels unfair to them and whenever I get autofilled to middle or something I feel really bad because I know I'm not good at it and can't hold my lane.

Had a Kayle mid today who is a top main. Our Lucian was camped early and a bit tilted. Kayle absolutely did not care and typed in chat: "Keep talking. This is my fill game. You think I care if I lose -3 LP. I'll afk."

Did not AFK but did go 1-10. Absolutely gave no care.

I would much rather have a player the same rank who has to try when he's autofilled because his LP is on the line, then a higher ranked player who could care less.

riot: "let's put positional matchmaking in the ranked system and not alter the autofill system in any way, shape or form"

positional matchmaking incredibly botched, everyone with a pulse says it's terrible or needs heavy work

riot: "oh no, how could this have happened"

Malix Farwin1 votes

I don't think positional matchmaking is the problem in this case. I think the splash is too lenient. People should be losing more then double what they are losing now. 3 LP lost is a "who cares" versus losing 8-10+. If they wer losing that much on their highest ranked role they may start to actually give a crap about winning games.
