Fix Provisionals and Ranked

When I first started playing league of legends, I played for fun. But when I hit level 30, I thought ranked would be fun to play competitively and it was. I was silver 2 the third season and then the next season I got put in bronze 3 and after falling up and down I ended up in silver 5, not complaining. But, It was hard to get to this point because in the bronze league, there are many players that are just simply bad or trolls. Simply making it a challenge to move up the ladder and carry yourself out of bronze. As season 5 was approaching, I noticed that riot was changing how provisionals worked. It would now be based off your last seasons ending place rather more heavily on the provisional games that you play to determine your rank. My first thought was "Great! Now I can pick up right where I left off". This changed when the provisional games were through. First day of the season I jumped on and wanted to get my provisionals over with so I could start and get to gold. The provisional games were littered with players that were just simply bad and ended off going 3-7 in provisionals. And I get bronze 5. I was just in shock because I had thought the changes were made to prevent my story from happening.

First off: I think the provisonals should be based off ones own skill. Base rankings off your average kda over the 10 games. Yes I know its a team game, but this is solo que! Why should I suffer because my team member went 0-6 in 10 minutes and fed the bot lane? It just doesn't make sense that your skill and position is being held in the hands of unskilled players.

Second: Riot went back on their word. Simply put. I was expecting maybe bronze 2 or 3 at the lowest from the whole speech they gave about not having to suffer all season because of the first 10 games. Fix this please so this doesnt happen to others.

Last: Make it easier to get out of bronze. Give more LP for winning a lower tiered match and make loosing less punishing? How am I supposed to get to where I was last season if im only getting a mere 16 LP for winning one game?

I am not righting this to make you guys feel sorry for me, I am doing it so maybe something can get done so this doesn't keep happening to good players that get stuck in "Elo Hell". Because honestly it is Hell. Its frustrating falling because of others and just the fact that you cant get out of it. I want some major changes put into the ranked system, because the game isn't fun anymore when you arent matched with players that are up to your level of skill.

  1. if it was based off kda, I would play soraka. get to level 6 and then afk. I would ult when ever someone was about to get a kill.

the point I'm trying to make is that you could have good kda, but still throw it for your team.

  1. they didn't go back on their word. you lost most of your matches. it makes sense that you would go down. most people went down in rank, but still had good mmr which helps them climb back up fast.

  2. lp gain and loss is based on mmr. if your mmr is high for your rank, you will gain more lp than if it was bad for your rank. also, there are no good players that are stuck in "elo hell". there isn't even such a thing as "elo hell". I also want to point out that bronze is easier to win in than silver. silver is easier than gold. gold easier than plat and so on. that is why bronze is the lowest. it's the easiest. if you are having a hard time, it means you have to improve.

chances are, if you are having a really hard time climbing, you are at about your skill level. you are matched with people who are as good as you about, both on your teams and the one's you are fighting.

  1. I feel like KDAs are a poor indicator of your actual skill/participation in the game. I feel this for a few reasons. One I feel this because kills aren't what decide games, objectives do. If Jax goes 1/10 but takes 7 towers and the nexus that game, I don't believe he should be punished for having a bad KDA that game. If Fiora has to lane against Pantheon all game and the enemy WW camps her to make sure she doesn't 'snowball' there is no reason she should be punished for the enemy team picking on her (as well as for relieving botlane of jungle pressure all game). If Zed goes 20/1 that game but spends all game killing the enemy support who is walking down midlane giving free kills 'because they didn't give me mid' Zed doesn't deserve props. If Fizz is 16/3 because he is chasing kills and not helping his team take towers, he doesn't deserve props either. The second reason I believe it's a poor indicator is because it devalues the support and tank roles of the game. In order to encourage team play we can't put a point value to kill participation. Why would I want to go Leona for you if it means I'll end up 0/4/16 and get a 'bad score'? At the same time an assist can be as simple as popping a whimsy on an ulting Cait (and why does a champion need a speed up when they can't move) so it shouldn't be considered 1 for 1 with a kill just like a Leona who all but sets up a kill and saves her teammate wouldn't be happy if her assist didn't count for much at all.

  2. You went 3-7 on your promos. If you made it to Silver 5 last season and you were losing games instead of winning your MMR was not of a SIlver 5 level but more of a Bronze 2/3 level more than likely. You shouldn't have continued to play placement matches if you were doing so bad at them. I'm sure you went on tilt and started to play worse if you did them all in one day. You went 3-7 which is really bad. I was placed with the same kinds of teammates as you in the beginning (I was B4 as S4 ended and then I climbed to S3 throughout preseason) and as a support main (someone who did not 'carry' a single game) I still managed to go 7-3 in soloqueue.

  3. if it was easy to get out of Bronze there would be no bad players and Bronze wouldn't be 'bronze' at all. The way you've made it seem (with you dropping every season) makes me think you've either not been actively playing or you haven't been keeping up well enough to continue to improve your play throughout time. What Riot did with these promos was they placed people in tier lower than the one the placements led them to belong to and then they made their Matchmaking Rating to be at their true spot (aka higher than Riot placed them) so that they would get more LP for the games they won and if they were consistently winning games they would end up with an MMR consistently higher than their current standing, allowing them to climb up faster than they had in seasons previous.

If you're only getting 16lp per win you did really bad in your promos probably getting stuck with B4/B5 players around loss 3 or 4 and continuing to lose to them.

Personally I went 7-3 my provisionals, I got placed in Silver 5, I'm getting about 20-25lp a win. It's about where I feel I should have been placed. If I had gone 3-7 at a S5 MMR I would expect to be tanked down super low.
