Malphite build question

Speedy59··2 votes·938 views

I'm new to lol and just purchased malphite earlier today, I googled my concern before but found no answer. My question is about the build. I know Malphite is a tank champion that mainly uses defensive items.

My question is, is rod of ages a good item on malphite instead of a defensive item like Iceborn gauntlet, I know IBG is mainly used because of the mana it gives to Malphite and the Armour as a bonus. But isn't ROA simply better as the AP works well with his ult and q, you also get lots of mana and hp which mal needs, according to the malphite wikia page ROA is a super good item on mal but none seems to use it. I know IBG works well with his w and e but still I see more benefits in getting the ROA.

You can literally build anything on Malph and be effective.

No. The problem with ROA is that it puts of building resistances for too long. Malphite likes: Armor, HP, MR, and AP in that order

He doesn't do very well with AP. Remember that Malphite gains damage for building armor! Getting tankier AND stronger at the same time is incredibly powerful. Sunfire cap and iceborn gauntlet are practically broken on him.

If you are going to get an AP item on him, get an Abyssal Sceptar at least.

Anyone can post anything on the wiki.

Tell that to the backline that Malphite football tackles, when he pretty much deletes the ADC or mage when he builds AP. He does well enough with AP to pull off a big burst all-in. Just like AP Alistar. It all depends on the playstyle with Malphite.

Yeah....I saw how broken Sunfire/Iceborn was on him....rubbery noodle slapfest between Quas's Sion and Impact's Malphite last year in the LCS....two minutes of backrubs ftw. All that was missing, was a Nunu...

At the cost of not having a tank with good peel. Full damage melee characters who aren't master yi fall off hard. If you really want high AP damage buy a void staff or a luden's echo for your last item. That alone will let you all in the adc and burst them.

Again, depends on the playstyle. Midlane Malphite(which is my favorite kind of Malphite) doesn't build tanky, unless the player grabs a RoA, or an Hourglass. And a good portion of the time, having a high octane Malphite does mess with the heads of the opposing ADC/Mage.

Personally, I rush item 3285 (item 3020 or item 3158) item 3089 item 3135 , and then finish with item 3102 and/or item 3157 . I prefer the idea that a hard hitting offense that wipes out the opposing team's main damage sources right off the bat gives my team a higher chance of success, depending on the team comp.

Sure, I guess if you take him mid you are probably the only mage. Not an ideal one, as you don't have ranged wave clear or aoe for sieges. More of an AP assassin? Yeah, AP assassin.

Exactly, for the AP Assassin moniker. Same with the AP Alistar build. Like how Fizz is a lot of the time, built as an AP assassin, or Katarina.

Look, everyone on here is going to tell you something different. The most important thing in your build is that it fits your playstyle and helps you win.

item 3027 item 3111 item 3068 item 3065 item 3110 item 3151

This is my personal build for Malphite/Leona.

ROA is a good mana-tank item. Better than any mana regen item for a tank except maybe Tear on Singed.

Merc treads for some MR.

Sunfire cape. Malphite is up close and personal. Burn damage is important. Armor scales on his E damage.

Spirits Visage. I just love this item. If you like Banshee's or Locket better, build em.

Frozen Heart. Strongest item in the game. Reduce enemy AS by 15%.

Liandrys. Always build this with Frozen Heart. Abyssal Scepter is trash. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

This build started for me around S2, early S3. Still useful, still using.

Keep in mind, Chaoswlkr, I'm not dumping on your build. I'm merely saying that Malphite is one of those champions that's actually quite modular.

I'd only go RoA vs double AP. Otherwise Armor=HP are you best stat choices.

Late game Ice born has a massive slow field from Malphites innate 300+ armor. Which makes up for the fact his slow is single target. Also if you three man knock up where are they going to go with ice born's slow field the size of a lane.

If you can afford to get ROA early on, then go for it. It's useful for passive lanes where neither side can get ahead over the other. Malph stays relevant for the entire game, so ROA doesn't really have a downside unless it's a late purchase.
