Content locked? How much money?

Calistoc··1 votes·1,372 views

I'm new to LoL and I was wondering how much content like ranking and maps are locked until I spend money. I think if I get more characters leveled up that's good. But I really don't understand. Someone help and explain how to unlock the ranked content or all content without spending more than I need to.

You never have to spend a dime on this game to unlock anything. To unlock ranked, you need to be level 30+ with atleast 20 champions.

Normal draft you need at least 20 champions, but champions in the free rotation count towards that number.

You unlock champions by leveling up your account and getting champion shards. You can either use pay full price for a champion from the shot, use blue essence with a champion shard to unlock a champion, or you can disenchant a shard to get more blue essence. Unlocking champions through champion shards gets you a 40% discount over just buying them outright from the in game store.

Skins can be obtained by gettings S- or higher at the end of a game, which will get you a hextech chest. Hextech chests contain skin shards which you can upgrade into permanent skins by either using orange essence or rerolling 3 shards. You get orange essence by disenchanting skin shards.

You need a hextech key to unlock hextech chests, which are obtained through honors at the end of a game. You're limited to 1 hextech chest per champion per season, and unlock 1 additional chest per week.

I would suggest against playing ranked immediately after hitting 30 so you can get a better feel for the game first, otherwise, you'll likely place pretty low, which makes climbing to higher ranks more difficult.

If you need clarification on anything, feel free to ask. It can be a bit overwhelming to new players. [slayer-jinx-catface]

Ok, that's good. I get it. but the LvL 30 + , is it separate from the champions and their ranking? Is my LVL connected to my champion? Or Do I have a level and my champions mastery is different. It seems like a lot of work to lvl 20 champions to 30. I think you mean that in order to play ranked you have to be a lvl 30 summoner and also have 20 champions total, either owned and in rotation champions count towards that max. Is that right? I think that's right. Tell me if that is right.

Also, do champion masteries actually do anything yet or are they just for show?

Yep those are different levels. The level 30 we're talking about is summoner level and the other one is champion mastery. I don't remember if rotating champs count but I doubt it.

Also champion masteries are for show. But it's a decent indication that the player playing that champion knows what they're doing.

Def good indication. Dynikus said the rotated champions do count. IDK TY Ryden. So I just need to get to level 30 then. Sweet.

the champions in the free rotation don't count for ranked, no. They count and are playable for normal (unranked) draft pick, but not ranked. For ranked you need to actually own 20+ champions.

do NOT go into ranked as soon as you can. Worst Idea you can have as a new player. You are not ready for it. No matter how ready you think you are, you are not. You will destroy your MMR and ruin peoples games. You should play for a lot longer before considering ranked games

Ty for the advice. sounds reasonable

I’d recommend finding one role and one champion you really like and play that one champion a lot. You will get better at the game most easily that way.

Tip: play by yourself if possible, playing with experienced players will make the automated system assume you are one too. If you are a new plaher, you should be matched with new players
