Season 8 Placements

I saw in a video that an unranked account can get as high as Plat 5 but I was told that I will start lower than what I was last season and that I can’t get placed higher. I was Gold 5 last season. How does that make sense?! Correct me if I’m wrong please. I need to know.

Won 10/10 games against 1700/1800MR Plat players carried evry single game with Camile unranked account never been ranked fresh level 30. Get SILVER 1 im done with league of legends there system is retarded the company itself are a bunch of kids that got bullied when they where little. i love that these big time streamers stop playing this pile of shit my day is 10 times better when i dont play this game

You never get rewarded for good play, You never get punnished for bad play, You never get punnished for trolling You get punnished if you tell the troll that goes 0-20 in 5 min to fck of out of the game and never play league again if they want this to be a 12 year old kid game by all means go ahead but i want nothing to do with this Ahole Company.

if an account has never gotten a rank then it can

I've heard of people getting a higher rank after placements then their previous season but its very rare, I dont know how it works. New accounts gain and lose MMR faster so leagues system can determine "where you belong" over your first 50 games. Which is why people say a new account is the easiest way to get to gold, if you dont rly belong there.

why does it matter? if you were gold last season and got placed in silver then there shouldn't be a problem getting there again because you deserved that rank, correct? if not then you don't deserve to be there.

The baseline for the game is silver 2-3 I'm not sure which I don't remember so when they reset you it puts you somewhere between that Elo and your Elo before your placements which then change that mmr. Hence why you went up from bronze but will likely go down when you are gold

"Can't" isn't really the right word, but it's unlikely. A general rule of thumb is people tend to place roughly a full tier below where they ended the previous season at as a side effect of the soft reset, but it's all mmr based and doesn't actually care about your final rank.

People who end the season with mmrs worse than their ranks might suggest usually get a bit of a shock when the get placed waaay below where they were expecting even if they do good in placements (e.g. previous season silvers getting placed B5 even with a positive winrate in placements), and similarly those with mmrs above what their rank would suggest can end up even placing higher than they ended at (although again this is unlikely, since the soft reset tend to pull people down).

Accounts that have never ranked before start with a silver 4 ish mmr, which means getting their mmr up to plat 5 level (or higher) is super impractical since they only have 10 games to do so, and can only duo with gold ranked players at best, which leads to the plat 5 'best'. In theory though, a top tier challenger player could make a smurf, win and dodge a ton so they never actually get promoted past gold, and end up with a challenger mmr despite being gold ranked. If a fresh account then duo'd with the gold ranked player with challenger mmr, and proceeded to still win all 10 placement matches (despite likely facing plat/diamond-ish players), it seems theoretically possible that the fresh account could get placed as high as plat 1 which is the highest anyone can place.

This is of course not at all practical, but the point is it's all mmr based at the end of the day, so if after the reset+placement matches your mmr is gold, you'll get placed gold, regardless of what your end of season rank was.

(Sometimes people get to gold 5, and then semi-troll or don't take things seriously since they earned their rewards and it's really hard to be demoted tiers so they don't think it matters. They still destroy their mmr though, and then get a harsh awakening when their 'gold 5' account gets placed bronze, since again, mmr is what matters, not rank.)

You can place higher that what you finished last season. It’s just very unlikely/difficult. I’m sure the only way would be to have high mmr for your rank and do really well in placements. Like going 8-2 or better.

I believe it is you can get Plat 5 if you are being placed against previously Plat or High gold players and winning 10/10 games. It's not like it's super easy for a new account to get Platinum 5.
