That's as accurate as saying Caitlyn does magic damage. Yes, it's in their kit. But they don't itemize for it most of the time because it doesn't provide much. Mundo's Q does enough damage to MAYBE give a reason for one pen item...but AP doesn't scale well with him at all and W becomes more useful for the tenacity than any damage. Additionally Wit's End is an absolutely shit item: you pay 2800 gold for some MR (but less than a Spirit Visage or even an Abyssal Scepter), weak on hit magic damage, AS, and a meh MR steal. You could instead get Titanic Hydra which provides damage based on maximum health (40+ damage at 4000 health, not counting the 400+ from the active) and more health. Especially since this is against Irelia Wit's End is a HORRIBLE item to get as the only damage you are lessening with that MR is her E.

The rest of the Mundo build is normal. Since this is against specifically Irelia a Deadman's Plate would sub for Randuin's and provide more, but otherwise fine.

For Irelia, you gave her FOUR magic resistance items. You know what Dr. Mundo enjoys? Champions that don't build any armor against someone with a 100-200 AD steroid and 5% of his max hp as physical damage. Or champions that build to try and lessen that weak W damage and eh Q spam. 1-2 MR items is ok (especially since Maw is a decent buy and Spirit Visage works well with Irelia's W and R), but 4 is useless. Especially since this is specifically vs Mundo subbing out Banshee's or Warmog's for BotRK and subbing out the other for a Deadman's would provide much better damage and defence.

...Whaaaaaaat..... Most of Mundo's damage is AP. I'm not saying that he should build AP, but Magic Pen is fine.

Because of that (and his E), Mundo has incredible 1v1 and poke. And when you compare their ults...

With optimized builds, this is what I think it should be:

He builds mostly armor as Irelia does a lot of damage by auto attacks, though there's life in there for Irelia's true damage.

Irelia knows Mundo will be stacking armor, so she gets armor penetration from Mortal Reminder (or Lord Dominik's, they don't stack). She also knows that life is amazing for Mundo (his ult) as well as a counter to her True Damage, so she grabs a Lord Dominik's for the Giant Slaying passive and the BoRK. Mercurial is good for Magic resist and attack damage, as well as lifesteal (she has sustain now!). No life in here, as life is hard countered by Mundo's Q.

I think Irelia's the one with flexibility here.
