Is there even a point to leveling anymore?

Pros for leveling: Gives new players a chance to git gud

Cons for leveling: Takes fucking forever (300~? games) Botted smurf sales are through the roof Most players are not new, so its purpose is lost. Sub-30 queues are just filled with smurfs or bots No financial gain outside of xp boosts -- which I can't imagine is a huge market, when people can just buy a level 30 smurf.

Here's my suggestion -- Remove leveling entirely. AFAIK normals already have mmr, so new players will get dumpstered into their respective norm MMR where they can learn, co op already exists for the purpose of learning the basic game mechanics.

To combat new players immediately jumping into ranked -- add a minimum normal game requirement for ranked, maybe 50 games or so. They still have to play enough games to buy 16 champions, or spend RP on them.

Pros of removal - Smurf sales basically immediately die, except for the purpose of champions/runes/skins, but I feel most people buy smurfs because leveling fucking blows. No more ridiculous leveling grind fiesta, boosts up queue numbers @ lv30, reduces overall queue time (for basically everything outside of high elo) Smurf accounts don't have to stomp new players for 300+ games to hit 30 Potentially heavy reduction in the amount of co op vs ai leveling bots, except maybe for IP farming, but I still feel like the market for smurfs would take a fat dump.

Sincerely, Guy who thinks leveling is actually cancer

Leveling to 30 is awful for the game. Having to unlock champions is bad for the game, not only because it's unfun for players but also because it harm's game balance it's the reason League can't have hard counters or real counterpicks. Runes are just flat out awful for the game.

The only reason Riot hasn't removed all of these is because they have no adequate way to reimburse their long time players who've put up with this horrible system since the early days.

actually the requirement of 16 soon to be 20 champs combined with needing runes is more than enough of a limitation for making players not able to enter ranked instantly.

Not when the tutorial is nearly useless and 6+ years outdated.

I'd be surprised if a completely new player can get his mind ready for even playing normals without a friend or two by the time he gets to level 30 without anyone telling him that there's a meta.

You do realize this issue becomes even worse with the ten ban champion increase, right?

League is actually a MMORPG. /s

I mean they already decreased the amount of exp that it takes to get to level 30. And there is (supposedly) a system in place that prevents smurfs from playing with actually new players. Also, letting complete noobs (and I say this because 50ish games doesn't even come close to teaching you to play league well) go into ranked will destroy the ranking system. Bronze will actually be elo hell and I say this as someone who doesn't really believe in it.

It all sounds nice but it would deteriorate level 30 normal mode experience if there was actually no barrier to making fresh "30" accounts.

The pros may outweigh the cons though (reduced server load from botting and other stuff)... actually people would still bot for IP to sell accounts with x amount of IP or champs

People buy lv30 smurfs because each takes about a week of botting and they have anywhere from 20k-100k ip ready for anything Also, they have fresh mmr
