Master & Challenger decay suggestion (From your average master & challenger players)

BIitzcrank··5 votes·2,791 views

Hello, I recently joined the master division and have heard and experienced a lot of dissent for the decay system from fellow players. I figured since there aren't many masters/challengers it would be less likely brought up and talked about.

My thoughts: Though many of people think top players should play every day (please don't view us in the same light as LCS pro players), my take is to have the decay system be the same for all players or at least have master/challenger play once a week like before. The reason for this thought is because LP doesn't have a cap which makes ranking fluid and regularly updated (if you are good enough).

If players want to be in the master/challenger tier, a lot of practice is required to rise to the top. Since only the **top **200 will be challenger in 5s and **top **50 will be challenger in 3s, there will still be changes in the ladders if the top players don't play as often. Having to force the top players to play near 10 hours of ranked games a week every week regardless of circumstances is just not fair for the top players.

How come a diamond 1 (100LP) would only need to play once a month, while master tier (0 LP) would need to play 30 ranked games a month (this is not counting normal games with friends)? Same argument goes for challenger. Sure I understand it's a way to keep player's skill up, however, at least make the difference gradual (Example: diamond 4, at least 2 games per month,D3 at least 3 games per month, D2 at least 4 games per month, D1, at least 5 games per month, Masters/challenger 5-10 games per month or **3 games every 10 days **). I think it's quite clear why the current 30 ranked games per month requirement is a problem for many top players who aren't full-time gamers (not to mention people who are master+ in multiple ques).

After my summer break, I will be working full-time, working a weekend job, and studying as a part-time student. Please keep the rank decay fair for your average working player who has social obligations but also the dream of one day being a challenger on the rift.

Thank you Blitzcrank

If you're a master tier player, why not just stream instead of taking an extra job? I'm sure you could make money off league as a top level streamer.

If you're this good at something, why do it for free?

I wouldn't advice encouraging people to start streaming instead of getting a real job.

Playing video games isn't what keeps the gears of society turning. It's what people do when they're lazy.

Society is garbage anyway no one wants to work for it.

What do you mean society is garbage?

Society is the only reason we are where we are now.

We all owe our lives to society.

I don't have a problem working for it, and I don't get why everyone else has a problem working for it.

I like to give back what I'm given.

Ok buddy keep on living in your dumb bubble of 'owing your life to society'.

Ok buddy keep on living in your dumb bubble of 'owing your life to society'.

Could you at least try to argument for your side?

You haven't given any reason to hate society, and yet you call my opinion a "dumb bubble".

It actually infuriates me a little that you show such disregard and unappreciation for the only thing that has gotten you where you are now.

Right now, you're being a part of society.

The computer you're using is a product of society.

The food you eat, the stuff you do, it's all because of society and yet you hate it for some reason?

I'm actually genuinely curious and I'd love you to hear your opinion.

Look,I'm not saying society doesn't have good parts as well.In theory it's a nice thing but if you don't see all of the problems society has it's not my fault and I'm not in the mood of lining them all up for you.Saying anyone owes their life to it is exaggerating, a lot.

And you hating working for and contributing to the only reason you're alive because of a few flaws compared to the many benefits it brings isn't exaggerating because?

You're automatically making it seem like your opinion is more valid than mine for some reason, yet you've still not said anything to even try and convince me to consider yours.

Don't bullshit me with "I'm not in the mood". That's just a lazy excuse.

If you're going to tell others they live in "stupid bubbles" and that they are "exaggerating a lot", you have to be willing to argue for it.

Magi Mayvin1 votes

It's just the fact that everyone has different experiences with society.Just being alive isn't any reason to thank society if that life isn't a good one.

I said i'm not in the mood because no matter how much we will argue we won't change our opinions at the end anyway so what's the point.I'd say we best leave it like this.

he's literally in the top what? 800 players of his region? His game can BE his job. If you do something for money, it's a "real job."

Reading books isn't what keeps the gears of society turning, but here JK Rowling is making $95 mil in a year. https://www.forbes.com/sites/hayleycuccinello/2017/06/19/how-j-k-rowling-earned-95-million-in-a-year/#78ccb88bd429

Listening to music isn't what keeps the gears of society turning, but kanye west is worth $160 million https://hypebae.com/2018/6/kanye-west-net-worth-income-money

By the way, he already said he would be working fulltime AND a weekend job, I just suggested he do this instead of the weekend job.

He should chase his dreams, and so should everyone else.

There's already so many streamers in the world. People would probably much rather watch those already established, than try to help out the new guy.

Do you know how hard it is to start out on Youtube now?

Besides, the thing that's so dangerous about streaming is that it's video games.

What do video games have a tendency to do? Die out when they get old enough.

One day, League will die and if you've invested all your time into playing it without any other skills, you'd lose your job.

And what both of them did was a risk versus reward action.

If you do something that's not mandatory for society, it's not 100% confirmed that you will have success, that you will make money.

It all comes down to whether someone likes what you made.

If you are a police man or fireman or something like that, society needs you. People cannot afford to say they don't like what you do.

It's only logical that you do what humanity needs you to do.

He should chase his dreams, and so should everyone else.

Chasing your dreams is high risk, high reward.

Taking a quote on quote "real job" is low risk, high reward.

I fail to see how "chasing your dreams" is the better choice in this situation.

One day, League will die and if you've invested all your time into playing it without any other skills, you'd lose your job.

You act like he can't just stream another game. If league dies? next moba. that dies? the next one after that, and so on. And even if he were to only stream til league died, he could use the money towards a career in the future.

Chasing your dreams is high risk, high reward. Taking a quote on quote "real job" is low risk, high reward. I fail to see how "chasing your dreams" is the better choice in this situation.

You're acting like I didn't just tell him to do both instead of one or the other. He stated he will be working full time, there, real job. I just said instead of taking another job in addition to that, work on his dreams and chase them.

There's already so many streamers in the world. People would probably much rather watch those already established, than try to help out the new guy.

He's at a level of play where all those top players and streamers know each other and know of each other. He can just duo with other master player streamers and grow an audience off of that. There would be no way for him to know if he could be successful unless he tries, and trying is free.

We're all going to die one day and what we did here will mean nothing, so yeah, I think everyone should chase their dreams and try to live life how they want to. Throw reality out the window for them? no. Dedicate your disposable time to chase them? always.

You act like he can't just stream another game. If league dies? next moba. that dies? the next one after that, and so on.

And you act like every MOBA is the same.

I don't think you can just copy-paste your experience with League onto something else.

DOTA 2, for example, is a very different game than League.

And even if he were to only stream til league died, he could use the money towards a career in the future.

This is assuming he gets big.

Again, going back to risk versus reward.

You're acting like I didn't just tell him to do both instead of one or the other. He stated he will be working full time, there, real job. I just said instead of taking another job in addition to that, work on his dreams and chase them.

Fair point, but I'd still advise doing something that's guaranteed to make money and contributes to society.

He's at a level of play where all those top players and streamers know each other and know of each other. He can just duo with other master player streamers and grow an audience off of that.

This is assuming the other master play streamers would even want to play with him.

There would be no way for him to know if he could be successful unless he tries, and trying is free.

And there is a guaranteed way for him to get a "real job", and getting a "real job" is free as well.

I'd much rather take the option where I'm guaranteed to get something out of it, on top of contributing to other people, than take the one where I might wind up wasting my time and ultimately I'm doing nothing but making a profit off of what's supposed to be entertainment.

We're all going to die one day and what we did here will mean nothing, so yeah, I think everyone should chase their dreams and try to live life how they want to. Throw reality out the window for them? no. Dedicate your disposable time to chase them? always.

Going back to what I said before, fair point.

I'd still just advise not taking it.

Ultimately, it is up to OP to take the decision he wants to. I can only give my own opinion on the subject.

TBH I like the streaming idea and will look into it! People love my name haha I definitely enjoy playing league more than my side job.

Yes, I do have duo buddies (many in fact) who are also top tier. The only thing with that is, I like to play normal games with my RL friends if I have time and not focus all my time on ranked (since i've gotten to a point where i'd like to chill, just think from a avg person's perspective who finally climbed to the top). And I think it would be fair for top players to chill like everyone else if they wanted to. There can be an unlimited amount of masters so everyone has the opportunity to be one! The 3 games per 10 day suggestion would help out a lot of masters & challenger players in terms balancing time.

And to answer your question, I do it for free because I love it :)

I have just one question, how is there any average master and challenger players?

BIitzcrank1 votes

What I was trying to get with "average" player was in average time spent online. Good question

Lucian Waifu1 votes

Also, how do you get to master? Or even diamond, I was almost diamond last season before my computer broke and this season between my lack of time grinding and change in meta I can't seem to do much better than P5.

I also think it shouldn't be every day to play. If a person thinks he can stay good enough to stay at his current ranking then let him not have to play all the time. Since only the best 600, I think, are in Masters. Since the best stay in Masters the one who doesn't play longer enough would get booted if enough other players win to qualify for Masters anyways, so I don't see why decay for not playing in 24 hours should also be added as well.
