What in the actual fuck?

2/13 PBE Update: Mordekaiser and Veigar changes, New Tristana splash, SR Terrain tweaks, and more!

Now when I heard that there was going to be a change to Morde, I was actually thinking this would be a nice change of pace considering he has no way catching champions outside of the occasional slow from an item or a gank or some stupid shit like movespeed morde.

What I thought was going to happen was that they were going to give him a little bit of a boost after they removed DFG and the fact that he has a pretty low AP ratio to begin with, I could not have fucking been any more wrong about this...

What they're actually doing is making his passive based off of his maximum health he has, he hits a bitch and that bitch hit gives him a shield NOT based off of damage, but his actual health. (Emphasis on that particular fact because it comes in a second)

What this does is it makes it to where he will absolutely have to build as a tank rather as an AP carry because of the fact that his shield was what kept him alive considering his low health, keep in mind he still has no way of actually forcing people to focus him, making him a rather ineffective tank considering he wont draw any of the damage from people who actually know how to focus.

Normally I would be ok with this as long as they gave him a bit of a boost in any way considering he now has to build tank instead of a damage items because of his weak damage and starting health. Here's where the extra boost of horseshit comes into play here.

instead of giving a boost in ANY category (Excluding his lower health cost and CD, because they don't do anything without damage to back it up.) They actually REDUCED the damage he deals and cut his health Regen in half. not that it did much to begin with but apparently it was a fucking oversight of Riot to give him a 1.6748 health regen per second to being with, and it was another thing to cut his already low damage by, in order of course,

"But they made it to where he gives his ghost up to 100 AD!" You might say, "Yes, but only if you suck your junglers dick the entire game you just MIGHT actually turn them into one." would be my normal response.

To sum this little thought bubble I have concocted would be that the AP bruiser/carry that lost a portion of his damage with DFG and actually can manage to squeeze out a victory if hes really good, has been turned into a shitty version of braum, with his only tank potential being that he can stand in front of skill shots and can hit the top priority target with his ult that has no damage (Woo 12% of their health is gone, now what?) because hes a fucking TANK with depressingly low damage to being with.

1v1 potential has been cut in half with Mordes only way of even staying in the damn fight being his shield with a very low cap for what they want to do, and his ultimate that steals a base 24% of his enemies health, which isn't bad, but then he cant do a DAMN thing aside from delay the inevitable. considering AGAIN his complete and utter lack of damage.

If there is a single fucking ray of hope shining from this pile of shit then please inform me, because I cant see this being Viable.

Edit: Keyword guys, VIABLE Also get the feeling you fucks dont like my opinion and dont have the balls or logic to argue with me

Except hes not.

If you run the math its an across the board nerf to Damage and Shield Generation (Even if you build Bruiser). Numbers need to be bumped up, if he goes live as he currently is he has less damage, AND less tank. And thats ignoring the problem of playing a bruiser with 0 CC and 0 Damage, sure you have a bajillion health but who cares, they are just going to ignore you and kill your team anyway, since you cant do anything to stop them.

Any chance I could compare your numbers to mine? I agree with the general sentiment but i'd like to engender some actual discussion as to what the numbers are that would "equal out" to as much shielding as he used to get, with less damage overall (since the two are disconnected now, this is easily possible).

Now I suck at math and a lot of this came from a group discussion, but I can recommend you to some of the people I play with if it helps any.

Anything that generates effective discussion is of interest. If they rolled these changes out to the PBE they're probably pretty confident about them being the direction they're looking for. It's pretty easy to point out that they could just tune the numbers (6% for Q and E multicast, and 2% for W) and he'd be very strong with Warmogs, Liandri, and Rylai (+1700 health on a 1900 health character means that landing a QE combo would basically fill your shield) but i'd hope riot can be more original than that.

Personally I think giving Mordekaiser an MS buff is a mistake, he had a very strong part of his identity tied up in being the only ms buffless, ccless, and dashless champion in the game.

What bothers me most about it is something I just cant stop mentioning because its a ridiculous change to being with, I mean they changed Sion mostly because he had a major need to have his abilities changed and his textures changed and just a whole bunch of shit that could be fixed easily by just scrapping their original design and giving him new ability's because they just seem to fit more.

It's just not needed in any way shape form or fashion when it comes to morde because he does in fact age well in almost every category except the league of slows... I mean a simple texture update would be appreciated but to slash his entire kit for seemingly no reason?

Plus the fact that there are plenty of things that need to be changed that should take priority over mordes kit unless I have the wrong idea and there are people on completely different teams working on different champions and one team just decided that they got bored and thought that they would spice things up by making one of the slowest champions in the game a tank with no CC, and I swear to god if they add him to the league of slows...

Overall, yeah I completely agree with you on that its a mistake to go back and break what you changed for a DAMN good reason.

Sure this was the build I did the math for. item 3152 item 3020 item 3068 item 3001 item 3116 item 3151 . With runes and masterys it came out to 3100 Health and 320 AP.

So look at Siphon first (Which honestly pretty accurately mirrors the changes across the board).

Old Morde E Damage with above build. 442, Shield Generation 154. (77 Against Minions) New Mord E Damage with Above build. 410, Shield Generation 124. Shield. (37 Against Minions) NET LOSS: -32 Damage, -30 Shield, -40 Shield Against Minions

Getting 4000 Health on the new Morde Gets you to 160 Shield, only 6 More than Morde on Live, and to do it you would have drop an item that isn't already giving you health. So thats item 3152, or item 3001 . Can't Drop item 3020 , Need item 3152 for sustain, so that leaves item 3001 , best choice probably being to replace it with a item 3065 .

New Totals. 250 AP, 3500 Health.

Olde Morde E Damage with Changes: 400, Shield Generated 140 (70 Against Minions) New Morde E Damage with Changes: 375, Shield Generated, 140 ( 42 Against Minions) NET LOSS: -25 Damage, +/- 0 Shield (-28 Against Minions).

Old Morde E Damage with item 3001 : 442, Shield Generation 154. (77 Against Minions) New Morde E Damage with item 3065 : 375, Shield Generated, 140 ( 42 Against Minions) NET LOSS: -67 Damage, -14 Shield (-35 Against Minions).

IMPORTANT NOTE: Someone brought up that I am not factoring enemy Magic Resist this is because Current Morde's shield is based off the Damage he deals, NOT the damage they take after mitigation. In other words Magic Resist already doesn't factor in to his Shield Generation. (Tested it in a Custom to make sure).

As you can see, this is across aboard nerf to"Bruiser" Mordekaiser in every way, Damage and Durability. It is in NO way a buff. Though I didn't type out all the numbers for every single ability here you can be sure I did do them. The only time New Morde Exceeds old Mordes capability's is if Morde and and an Ally with Creeping Death active BOTH are damaging 3 or more enemies with the spell. This is of course, is extremely situational and ironically only results in more damage and actually still produces less shield. Furthermore it in NO way makes up for the across the board nerfs on both damage and survivability especially considering his Ult does not produce shield once the Ulted Target dies, ( the Ghost Produces 0 Shield when it attacks.)

Please feel free to do the math for his remaining abilities you will see that the trend holds true.

The problem with him being a Bruiser is his lack of CC and Mobility. Almost all bruisers have both CC and Mobility as well as Tank and Damage (this is why they are hard to balance) this Morde is less tanky because his shield technically fills up slower and they nerfed his damage so he does less damage. Plus in order to stay alive he needs to build tank now for his pasive, so he gets less AP items and will do even less damage.

Hopefully im over-exaggerating this, im going to try him next chance i can on the PBE.

mordekaiser was a brusier tank long before he was an ap carry. he is merely returning to where he was and intentionally made to be.

and i say good. his kit still needs serious changes but at least its a good step

IvoryXEbony1 votes

Now you see I would be inclined to agree with you, but I don't actually care about what he used to be and the direction they are sending him in looks, and actually is a bad idea, considering the fact that all he can and will do is ult then walk away so he wont die.

just because hes returning to what he was intended to be don't make it a good idea. only thing i agree with is that he needs some serious changes, not that its a good step

PS: what about this direction is good?

Saruyan1 votes

well no one cares what you think so dont know why you even decided that was relevant.

and it was good because it was a better playstyle thematically and functionally than this hope you do enough damage and get a ghost and live long enough

thematically, he makes no sense as an ap burst mage, hes a slow lumbering cursing person whos magic is metal, he isnt an instantgibber, his looks are a dead giveaway from that.

from a gameplay point of view, his shield system is one of the more unique second bar systems, beat probably only by heat, and his current playstyle makes it pretty irrelevant because you end up building him so squishy to be useful you die instantly anyway.

and changing him back into what he was intended is a good idea, because it is literally what hes supposed to be, it ties a character together when their kit and model and animations come together in such a good way. this is their chance to start reeling in from a dumb playstyle he became to one that is actually interesting and takes full use of his unique mechanic.

"because you end up building him so squishy to be useful you die instantly anyway." You have been playing Morde SO wrong

  1. Never mentioned instagib, and it does take some shield management to win a fucking fight considering his low damage output period

2.yes he does have a unique shield system, he also has a unique ultimate, i dont give a fuck about being unique here though so no points for pointing that out

3.Again, and I will fucking defend this to the grave, what its intended for does NOT equal a good idea. Examples. Sion AP trist AP yi (RIP) AD on-hit lulu Communism

I think that's enough, next point.

  1. Nigga you mentioned thematically and said that pulling a shield based off health is more relevant then the theme of stealing the souls and life from the enemy to bolster his own strength.

  2. He does NOTHING if he cant slow, disable, silence, blind, pull, dislocate or any other myriad of things they DON'T want him to do, BECAUSE he has no damage.

  3. If you want to tell me my opinion is not important then list your own, you can get RIGHT the hell outta this thread

Saruyan1 votes

not a single one of those builds was actually intended, and that is why they were changed.

all those champions with the exception of lulu were original 40 where everything that was an ability had an ap ratio, and items didnt give nearly as much ap as they do nowadays. deathcap didnt exist, and you got zhonyas ring which meant you didnt get 2 extremly high ap items.

that is why sion was changed that is why trist was changed that is why yi was changed.

riot clearly learned in their past few years about ratios and scalings in the new game.

and i dont even play morde now, because his new way of playing his garbage compared to what he used to be.

Mordekaiser's "bruiser tank" build was inferior ever since he was created. There has never been a time where Mordekaiser has built tank and done well.

Mordekaiser has literally always built damage and been unkillable, not the other way around.

Saruyan1 votes

mordekaiser in season 1's build was pretty much a full brusier build with an ap item.

it was superior in every way to current morde, it was more fun, and he was strong just because he never died.

especially when he got so much shield from minions you could also never push him out of lane or stop his farming.

so yes his brusier tank build was superior, and then we lost items, and then he lost his shield gen against minions and then his ult got changed.

No, because for every nigh worthless Mordekaiser who built Rylai's, Warmog's, and Force of Nature there was one who rushed DFG and popped carries like pinatas

Not to mention one of his viable builds literally being a shitload of Gunblades

pretty sure all the good mordes built him with that, all the ones that did extremely well. soooo
