whats wrong with normals matchmaking ?

is it just me or does it seem like the mmr ratings are all over the place. one game i had a diamond 5 player and a bronze 2 player on one team. i wish it tried to find people similar to the way ranked does.

It's because you are trying to determine their MMR by looking at their rank. Ranked MMR and Normal MMR are completely independent of each other. If you want to be paired based on your Ranked MMR you'll just have to play Ranked.
