The Generalist Problem and Lucian
I was wondering what people think of Riot having a problem with "generalist champions,"
It seems like they basically don't like champions that aren't incredibly difficult to play, with some mobility, and the ability to teamfight and duel(splitpush) effectively. They cite LeBlanc and Zed as problem champions, who become really popular when the meta favors their class, and are left with either being the best choice or candidate for a nerf.
This patch the changed LB's kit to delay her damage, which makes her a threat to a champion that missteps, rather than someone who obliterates any squishy who missteps. They can buff or nerf her around this mechanic, I don't really like it, but I get the theory behind it. Much like they made rengar want to hunt progressively tankier champions. And incentivize killing high AD champs from Zed.
My question now is, why haven't they just pushed lucian even further into niche as a kind of short range ADC? I recognize that is also Graves, who has the combo's and tankiness built in, damage being gated by his ammo gimmick and q delay, but offering him AoE damage in exchange. But these changes have also pushed him out of the Marksmen role and into more of a fighter position, where we see him played top and jungle primarily. Jayce is also an odd case, because he is both melee and range. But he has a skill with incredibly long range. Grave's has his ult for that. Lucian has his ult for that as well.
But what if instead of just nerfing lucian's range, they just changed the way he functions. What if riot changed lucian's ult so that it worked more like Katarina's? What if during the culling he tethered to the nearest champion and just proceeded to unleash his full ult damage as a target skill?
-What if people could juggle the damage by increasing their proximity to lucian? -What if it was defined as being for in fights and not for waveclear? What if you had to get into the pit to contest objectives? -It does insane amounts of damage, so why not make him choose between medium risk for medium reward by softening up the frontline, or high risk high reward by attempting to shred through the backline with dangerous positioning? -What if he/the enemy could split that damage between two champions, which would allow people who have been waiting for a champ to use two guns as two sources of damage? -He could maybe even have the culling return his resets on relentless pursuit if he gains a kill? (That would allow him to save himself and cancel the damage, or keep pursuing whichever target he wanted. -What if relentless pursuit kills increased culling duration by .25-.75 seconds? (if you succeed, you get to keep chasing for just a little longer.)
He could have his q range increased and more incentive to land w to increase chase potential and not just to add more double taps.
Does anyone have any ideas about other waves to improve his kit in terms of specializing so he doesn't have to be relegated to flavor of the month or basically unplayable.
