I personally love both of these modes and find them really fun and enjoyable. I understand why people might not like these game modes for crowding out others, but I don't get why these two in particular get most of the hate recently. Feel free to post your thoughts and reasons for them below.

Its not so much that the modes are bad, but more so that riot puts them up at a rate which makes them not fun to play, rather than having alot of different modes, which is what people want. These people want a fun alternative, not a repetitive experience.
It's not that those gamemodes are bad. It's that they are easily the most common rotating gamemodes.

According to this list, Ascension has been featured 13 times out of 60. A little less than 25% of all the rgm weekends have been one gamemode, when there are 14 different gamemodes that have been featured before.
As you said, the problem is that they are crowding out other choices for an unknown reason. What is the point of having a rotating gamemode queue when your going to feature a few gamemodes far more often than the other ones.
It's the fact that Riot purposely leaves out urf because "people will get sick of it fast" but have no problem with ascension being up in between other modes.
Talk about hypocrisy.
One other note I should mention. Riot had to reintroduce each game mode to the new client. (if Anyone remembers when we had LotPK 4 weekends in a role) Not sure how long it takes them to do that for each game mode though. Though each time, they seem to have to test in on the PBE first, which may be part of the reason New game modes are now every patch, instead of every week.
LotPK was the first game mode to be implemented in the new client, and I think Ascension was right next to that. So it really seems like those game modes are always ready to go if all else fails.
Because Poro king and Ascension are the two most commong gamemodes.
They were fun at the begin, but after a few games you just realize poro king is aram with a big poro that sometimes spawn and ascension is a worse Dominion imo.
Also Urf comes like once a year
