Let's talk about Jax! (Huge post)

WARNING: THIS POST IS AN ABSOLUTE WALL OF TEXT. BE READY FOR A LONG READ.

The last time jax saw any light or even people talking about him was when gunblade applied AOE'S and he was this ridiculous champion that everyone hated. Gunblade got changed, jax got nerfed. A short while after that we gave Jax's passive stacks that fell off instead of going from 8 to 0 instantly.

I'm not saying jax needs a buff because that's really not it. You can pick him and do well just like every other champion in leauge, hell, even urgot can do good. That's not what I'm trying to say right now.

If we take the meta champions and see what they do it shows a clear reason why jax is going to almost always be outclassed or just for people who main him.

Renekton. You want damage and an ultimate that makes you big and scary? Pick renekton. On top of it you also have a stun ( the one cc jax has)

Fiora. Want mobility, a slow (stun), great damage at almost every point in the game? Fiora is the one for you.

Maokai/Naut. Big tanks with good wave clear and great crowd control all on reasonable cool downs with good base damages. They outshine jax in everything but killing someone.

I've rambled on enough but I could mention more but I think that point has been made.

I don't want to buff jax or nerf the other champions because that always causes the same thing to happen over and over.

There has to be a reason to pick Jax over someone like renekton or fiora who do the same thing just better or more reliably. Stuns damage and on top of that, a better early game.

Jax wasn't even mentioned in the diver update. So I spent a while thinking about possible changes to jax to make him fit the "scary lamppost guy that used to own the rift"

His whole kit revolves around stat checking and dumpstering people late game, and right now that works out pretty well and I can see why he has gone unchanged.

Attack speed steroid. A gap closer. An auto reset. A stun. And stats and damage on one ability. The absolute definition of a stat checker is jax. Do I have more items than you? I kill your whole team.

Let's start with his passive. A strong attack speed steroid at all points that gets better later into the game, even further making him better in the late game.

I feel like Jax is basically forced to build attack speed with this and his build will rarely vary game to game. Really triforce into either bork titanic or gunblade is all it's been for two years.

I still want to keep jax's passive to stats, but not only attack speed. I feel like focusing less on attack speed and more about the overall strength of jax himself is the right way to go.

The passive could be increased to 10 stacks just for number reasons here. Every stack grant Jax 1.5% more Ad, Ap, Armor, and Magic Resist. (1.5 to 3% attack speed per stack depending on level). At ten stacks Jax's Tenacity and move speed increase by 15% (only effective at ten stacks)

For the Q this needs a nerf to compensate. He reason he is so strong late game is because your jump is such a crazy low cool down with huge range, it just grants too much sticking power. With 40% percent cooldown at max rank this spell with be on A 3.6 second cooldown. Try and run, I dare you.

Jax's W is his most basic ability, it's the reason you build sheen and it's also got huge potential for damage in the late game. Overall, this ability is Jax's bread and butter and the only thing I could see changing about it making it so at ten stacks of your passive the W damage (nothing else like sheen or normal attack damage) will be applied in Tiamat like circle and also to the original target (210 magic damage in a small circle really isn't a huge deal, just quality of life)

His E ability should remain mostly unchanged, Make the stun .75 seconds without ten stacks and make it 1.25 with 10 stacks(changed from 1 second every rank)

And the ultimate is where I see the most changes, alongside the passive. Right now every 3 attacks Jax has one large magic attack, this is all passively. On its active you gain armor and magic resist scaling with your attack damage and ability power.

I want this to stay as an ability then when up, people are supposed to fear the dueling potential you have.

Here's my idea, the magic damage applied every 3 auto attacks should stay completely the same UNTIL you hit 10 stacks. At ten stacks the magic damage on hit effect should change to magic damage on every auto attack but only with 60% of the original damage.

At rank one this means 100 (70%ap) will be changed to 40(28%ap) on every hit.

Another effect of having ten stacks should make you apply a slow with your auto attacks (10% rank one, 15% rank two, 20% rank three)

The last affect I want to do for the ultimate is to get rid of the armor and magic resist it grants for a upgrade to his passive for the duration of his ultimate.

At rank one Jax will increase the effectiveness of his passive by 50%, Rank two 75%, and rank three 100%. At maximum effectiveness this will grant Jax 3 to 30% AD, AP, armor, magic resist, and doubling the effectiveness of the attack speed he has stacked on his passive. This ult bonus will also effectively increase his movement speed and tenacity as well. The duration could vary anywhere between 10 to 15 seconds. Maybe even give it the Yi effect and have it be like 7 seconds and 3 more per kill or something like that.

Alright. That's the end of it. If you read all the way to the end I applaud you and thank you. Feedback would be appreciated and tell me your ideas for skill or number toning here as well! Thank you.

Where's the tl;dr?

This sound like broken jax. Maybe if you didnt have such an easy way to have 15% ad, ap, armor, and mr and 15%-30% (10 stacks) up all the time.

You would have to gut his base stats on the principle that any jax who isnt trolling can keep stacks up super easily inless he is jungle. This would mean gutting jungle jax.

The other option i see is converting the extra stats into 15% of your BONUS ad, armor, and mr

The attack speed you gave is probably fine, but its a nerf to the old version to compensate for the new stats. The on his from his ult doing 60% of its damage each attack sounds absolutley broken because of how easy 10 stacks is to keep. As for what his ult does to his pasive, thats a mess i dont want to deal with.

The tiamat thing on his w sounds whatever. If it applies onhit and does 100% dmg it would be op. Just build onhit and max w first, 210 aoe at level 9 is a big deal when (this is a common reocurrence as you see) he can keep 10 stacks so easily.

The tenacity sounds stupid. Jax doesnt need te acity, he is tanky enough already and does a lot of damage. He has enough sticking power. If jax needs any tenacity, i cant count on my fingershow many champs deserve twice that

Thats all i can think of

P.s you are making jax more of a stat check

Yeah you're totally right. I had a really bad headache and wasn't thinking too clearly here

Although I did mean the ultimate damage is reduced by 60%, down to 40%. It's really hard not to change jax without keeping the stat check play style in check.

I appreciate the feedback
