Support is the most important role.
Hi, I'm going to be covering 2-3 main points as to why Support is the most important role.
You want your ADC to have a nice lane phase? You want a casual, risk free roam? You want wards, peel, front line, unbiased shot calling, engage, exhaust, ignite, or just a simple thresh lantern?
Let me expand my thoughts before you click back and say ''this is one of those pseudo-league of legends opinions that are dog ****." (I do that a lot)
To start it off, This is the first time I've ever posted a discussion. I've played league in EUW and NA. I've played this game since the very beginning of season 1 back when you could stack sunfire capes on eve and stay invisible no matter what, until you attacked someone. I was there for Ashe mid. I was there for the 3 GP5 items. The only time I've ever cried in my life was when Heart of Gold was taken out of the game. I watched Scarra play in the LCS. I remembering buying Zed in season 3 I believe he came out, and was absolutely in Awe. I was there when Syndra was released. I was there when LB was reworked her very first time.
In addition to my extensive experience in the game, when ELO was the only way to judge a player, I made it to 2k elo. This is usually around Plat 1-plat 2. When ranks came out initially, I got to Diamond 3 as my highest rank. I've had many accounts, probably around 10 or so, that are permanently banned because hey... I used to be kind of toxic. Due to this, I really have lost my competitive edge and the stress load / unpredictability for SR and I only play ARAM now. I've played in ARAM tournaments in EUW against Challenger opponents and did perfectly fine against some of the best players in the world. (but its ARAM.) I like ARAM because it's basically a slingshot straight into mid game team fights, and honestly everyone knows those skirmishes and gimmicky team fights when you have 1-1.5 items is the single best time in a league of legends game.
I play ARAM for a second reason: I realized that when players that are toxic, doing bad in lane, and overall having a NEGATIVE experience in the game. it is boiled down to one single reason: They don't receive help when they deserve it and simply can't be helped. That isn't just when you're doing bad, it is when you're SOLO carrying a game as well. You are 5-1 top lane and your bot lane is trash? Game over. You're 0-4 mid lane and your jungler is behind too? Blame him or her. You need a gank but your jungler is contesting other things? Blame him or her. I've done it, you've done it, it's sometimes true that your jungler isn't very aware, and it sometimes it isn't true. Now, when you're doing bad in lane and you die one time, a golden rule for a jungler is that you deserve help. At any point in the game if you are only 1 kill and 1-2 waves of CS behind, you are doing fine and deserve some help that will actually impact the game. However, as a jungler, you shouldn't help a lane that is beyond saving. It is better to spend your time in a winning lane and capitalizing on some sort of advantage and play towards a strength. But, enough elaboration. Everybody needs help in some regards and the jungler is the main culprit of not helping. But we've all played jungle, been blamed for not helping, and just thought to ourselves "dude, there is no way I could have helped you. I'm busy with other things, I'm behind slightly, or there's another lane that has flash less enemies and a guarantee kill."
So, what do we need? We need more vision control to HELP THE JUNGLER HELP YOU. We need roams, ignites, CC for ganks... We need a savior.
This is support! Supports almost always buy mobi boots for the sole reason that they are basically an ambulance that goes around and helps the MAP and the entire team. They are the only ones whose sole responsibility is to not play for themselves. They don't need gold, superb damage items, or sustain. They can those those kinky rune pages that don't excel in killing people, but more or so very specific, mechanical, and nifty play styles. They do not have to worry about being primarily targeted during the entirety of a game. Think about all of those times that you've played lulu support with a kog maw or vayne or something, and got a triple kill 2v3 and thought to yourself if I didn't play that perfectly, this would have never happened. Now, ADC may be considered the most important because they are the safety net of the game. But, without a support to feed them, buff them, heal, shield, engage, peel, ward, set up, rescue, or exhausting an assassin for them, they are utterly useless. I would say without a doubt that ADC is the easiest role (hardest to master) because you basically just A-command the first enemy in front of you (or if you can safely target something else) and look around the screen for possible dangers and void said danger. Obviously many people aren't skilled enough to do this but for me having played this game for so long, it's my best role.
To end this discussion, I will say that as an ADC main (when i eventually play SR now), you are solely reliant on your support for everything you need. You can only do so much! You can not carry yourself out of an elo hell every single game. Pro's have gone on stream and tried to do it and it either a) takes way too long, b) they end up duo q'ing off stream c) realize that elo hell is real and simply give up. Now, this is a generalization yes. But I will say that it is a true statement that you can not carry yourself in every single game especially as an ADC. You can not win every exchange before mid game starts if your support sucks. You just can't do it. After playing this game for so long, I would have to argue that supports are a bigger priority during ganks, early game, or mid game fights and they need to die first before anyone else. (if no one else is super fed) Essentially their kits are designed to start and control fights. What is an ADC supposed to do to start a fight before they have rapid fire cannon? Walk into sometime and auto attack it? No. You can not do anything in early game, safely, without a support. Without support, everyone is too occupied doing everything else in order to help with vision or help a struggling lane, or to rotate.
Supports are the most important role in the game because they are risk free gankers, cognitive of their teammates, and....... THEY BUY WARDS.
Thank you if you read through it. Please share your opinions with this sulky, salty, washed up league of legends veteran.
P.S. T1 alpha af!
