So I got all excited when I noticed I could play placements again. Finally a chance to get a fresh start right? Nope. Won 7 out of 3 matches, still in bronze V. What the hell did you make me do those stressfull placements for? I'm not here to argue out my old or current elo. I am where I am. I'm lodging a formal complaint about this "reset." If nothing I can do will change my position then don't make me struggle through the damn placements. PLEASE!
Sukishoo5 votesYou were previously Bronze 5, so the placements are going to put you at least a Tier under and well since there's nothing lower than B5 that's what you get.
You should gain a fairly good amount of LP though from wins having gone 7-3.

That means that his MMR is higher than the current ranking.
Also just because websites tell you your MMR might be one thing doesn't mean it is indeed that high. He might still have Bronze 5 MMR but it might be a bit higher than average. Op.gg and other sites only have their estimates of the MMR as only Riot knows the Real MMR.

"fairly good amount" does not equate to higher MMR. Its subjective and not at all helpful in any kind of discussion.
Higher MMR also could be "I am bronze 5 0LP but have the MMR of bronze 5 1LP"
