Need help with Irelia matchups

The video provided is me vs Shen. You'll hear a lot of chatter between our adc and support bantering back 'n forth. We're all gold minus the support who's a plat 5 I think.

I'm trying very hard to overcome Irelia's toughest matchups. I do this by watching Irelia Carries U quite religiously, the only problem here is that ICU is a bit unrealistic; I only see the games he pub stomps vs the games he struggles and maybe give us insight as to why he struggled. Which is fine, but I feel like I shouldn't be struggling with Shen top as much as I am.

So far the toughest matchups for me are: Shen, Trundle, Darius, Garen, and Nautilus. I'm getting better against Darius, Garen, and Trundle, but the other two I feel like i'm making little to no progress. If you could, please watch the laning aspect of the video (or the whole thing if you want) and tell me what i could be doing better. Farming is always something I could get better at, so anything besides that if you don't mind. You'll see me miss a few easy minions, and you'll here me getting disgruntled (lol). It goes without say that I miss easy minions due to either getting distracted by something, minion collision, or misjudging the timing of the last hit.

If need be, I can post up a video against me and a Trundle where we BARELY win the fkng match. Sheesh. Lately, I've found against Trundle that if I buy Executioner's blade early, I can trade much, much better, but it still is a hassle late game. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Most of the time ICU struggles, its because he made mistakes and he tells everyone what those mistakes were.

As Irelia, if you don't know the match-up, play to farm. He likes Doran's blade for this reason; you can sustain through most harass if you play it right, and you have the stats to go aggro if they over-extend, you get a gank, etc.

Shen isn't a good top. You can just play to farm easily. The only reason you can't fight him is because of his AoE dodge. He shouldn't be able to do anything to you past taunts into minion waves early game. Farm and utilize your TPs well.

Trundle is bullshit against any non-early-burst melee. Don't worry about that one too much. The answer to that match-up lies mostly with the jungler, but a D-Shield after your D-Blade start works well. Don't harass; its wasted mana with his passive and disengage power. Focus on farm and outscale him. Don't use your stun unless he's already used pillar. If he's a bad Trundle and stacking tons of Lifesteal, he's an easy gank and will be useless later. Try to freeze in front of your turret; don't let it get pushed all the way in if you can help it.

Darius is easy. Farm up and pay attention to Qs. If he catches you with E, trade a little and stun him to back off. He gets ganked very easily, so ask your jungler to watch the lane. Don't over-extend vs him, and DO NOT try to fight him unless you think you could beat him with ~25% less max HP, essentially.

Garen you should crush until you roam and get Villain. After that, he still can't kill you unless you let him. Just be careful and stay warded. If he's over-extending, call your team for an easy kill.

Naut is just farming until you get Trinity. If he's pressuring, that's another easy gank to go for. You just can't go aggro on him without a reason. Wait for him to make mistakes. After Trinity, you can trade with him, esp if you have a reason to go SV/Hexdrinker at that point.

These are just my experiences. Don't think they're the be-all-end-all.

However, learning to lane as her in a way that you can farm in any match-up is crucial, and part of what makes Irelia such a strong pick. If you can't hit that TF powerspike early consistently, you're better off picking someone else. Just comes down to practice.

The only match-up I consistently struggle in is Volibear when a jungler won't pressure early.

Actually you can't outscale a trundle. You NEED to make a lead before he hits level 6 and even with a lead you have to bait his ult before hard engaging. I found most success against trundle when I start dorans blade and play aggressive early. Stun - auto - run when he activates Q - wait for him to auto a creep and re-engage for more damage.

shen is very strong against aa reliant champs. same reason jax is but hes tanky so early game hes stronger than jax in that matter

Akali is SO HOT1 votes

-Start Corrupting Potion -Max E against lanes that you struggle against. It's much better than you might think it is. I find myself maxing E most of the time because it does a ton of damage and makes ganking so much easier for your jungler. Tower diving an E max Irelia is also a pretty bad idea. -In trades or all ins a good thing to do sometimes is to wait until you start to lose and then E them to stun them and do tons of damage. -Never ever been a fan of getting Phage before Sheen. Getting Sheen first gives you so much more burst and damage than phage does and really helps snowball the lane for you. That's one thing that triggers me about ICU. -I tend to take Ignite over Teleport because it can win you early all ins and snowball the lane and game for you but it's more of a personal preference. -Hextech Funblade is usually a really good second offensive item to get. Basically, either that or Botrk or Maw if you are up against a heavy AP comp.

Darius Garen Malphite Nasus Nautilus Pantheon Poppy Shen Singed Volibear are all hard matchups for Irelia (especially if they rush funfire cape) so don't feel bad if you lose to them. Just try to farm up and avoid dying.

I have a few videos of Irelia (she's one of my favorite champions) so they may or may not help idk. Here they are: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPYT36kNaNk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMKlWBr-mJ0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ktif9MMoN4

Edit: -Once you get enough damage you can 1 shot minions with Q with your W activated so try to fight enemies around minion waves to juke them around and outplay them -After this patch Swifties are gonna be kinda bad so always go Mercs/Tabi

You only get Phage first if you can't buy a whole Sheen. If you have to just buy components, its much better to go Phage because the components provide raw combat stats, unlike Sheen. Also, Phage provides you with better Q - reset trading. If you can get off even one more auto attack due to the Rage passive, that Phage has done a hell of a lot more than Sheen would have before level 6.

-I tend to take Ignite over Teleport because it can win you early all ins and snowball the lane and game for you but it's more of a personal preference.

I'd only take Ignite against rough match-ups you have to bully out early. If you can beat them by standard trading/farming, Teleport is often a lot better.
