[Bard] Bard-Only Player Feedback

Hello! I am Hamblin the Bard, a Bard only player! My main was Platinum last season, but I wanted to take a different approach on League of Legends by focusing solely on one champion.

I've heard mixed reviews of Bard, whether he is good or bad, whether his utility is worth the low damage, etc...

I'd guess I only have around 30 or so games with him, so take my word as low or high as you want!

I believe that there are some conflicts with his objectives. What I mean by this is he is a support, meaning he needs to assist his lane partner to assure his success. At the same time, he must collect chimes that spawn at semi-random points on the map. A smart Bard will take time to collect these chimes only when it is safe to do so (i.e. enemy has recalled, or dead) However, I feel that in lanes with champions that are farm-based, this doesn't work so well. They need your constant attention, and you can't roam **nearly **as much as you could if you had a lane partner that can handle him/herself.

This has brought me to the conclusion that some of his stats need to change for early game. In particular, I am referring to Caretaker's Shrine.

I believe that the scaling on its mana cost is not balanced. You will find level 1/2 that the mana cost is huge, effectively taking ~1/3 of your mana. However, late game, you barely even notice mana problems. Because of this, I think that the cost should be lowered level 1, and the cost increased when maxed. On a similar note, I also believe the CD should be changed to a lower number level 1, and increase later.

Why these changes?

We can all agree that early game is vital to the outcome of the game, and a games outcome can sometimes be dictated by early game alone. This is a crucial time for ADC's to get ahead of their opponent, and to do that they need to outfarm and outpoke them. They can't do this with a roaming Bard! What these changes do is allow for Bard to place more health shrines down early to make up for his absence in lane.

That's all I am suggesting as of now. I personally think the pathing on his Magical Journey is pretty funky, but I won't get into that.

I'd love to hear input about my suggestions from other Bard players, or anyone this is relevant to.

Thank you very much for your time!

bard needs a dmg buff

Haha I guess that would make sense, but it would do nothing to help his early game roaming playstyle!

Bard needs to have chime scaling on at least some of his kit to make the collection game feel more rewarding imo.

at the moment, its only worth it for the mana and ms boost.

I actually like his chime scaling! I feel like ~90 is the max you'll get though, so I believe that it would make sense to maybe make smaller requirements for upgrades, maybe something like you get an upgrade every 3 or 4 chimes?

If bard can be someone who infinitely scales on his chimes, it would be fine with the damage output he has right now. He can gain a certain amount of ap and ad for the chimes he collects. Let's be honest though. Bard doesn't do enough utility for his presence to be known in team fights. He can definitely set up fights that are winnable, but if the other team is too far ahead, he wont be able to provide damage support that other supports provide. Thresh can do a decent amount of dmg with his abilities, Blitzcrank hasn't gotten a rework and his abilities for a support are phenomenal, Morgana, Zyra, lulu, Sona, even Soraka in some cases, and so much more. Bard can't provide the damage output to make himself relevant in a fight after the setups have been in place. Placing some sort of damage output would make him a more versatile champion like everyone else in this game. lets not continue to have one position type champions that are only Good for one role. it's boring and dissatisfying, especially when you have a roaming champ in bot lane who can't be a jungler as well. The truth comes in with the fact that he can't provide damage for his team, however, what is an opinion or a suggestion is that maybe we should have either better ratios on his abilities or infinitely scaling chimes.

Another good idea can be to have more repercussions done to enemies that go through the tunnels that bard creates. This should be more then just slowing them down. (even though they are slowed, I don't think that we feel that the enemy is slowed because of how insignificant the slow seems) We can also have damage brought to the enemy when they go through or are near the portal. This well give bard a better escape that is similar to other champs like ezreal, caitlyn, lucian, lulu, braum, and more. As of right now though, the portal doesn't truly seem like an escape, just a cool way to travel from one place to another. The portal is great for engaging, however not for disengaging.

The heal can either increase in AP ratio or stay as is. I feel like the heal is Good where it is at right now and is a very good idea on RIOT's part. GOOD JOB! :)

I really hope that riot at least takes some of these suggestions into consideration for the next patch. I think that if you guys do.Bard can see some serious game play on the rift and he won't be on the bench warming it up for the other support champs. Other then that, Bard is a great idea and you guys should be proud of how far your game has gotten. League of legends is best PC game in the world now, I believe. (is it not, not sure). Bard is a great champion, just needs some tweeks.

I've always felt that the charge up time for the shrine becomes a tad long for when it comes to late game. The charge up feels only significant for the laning phase, but when the teams start moving around as a unit and are constantly on the move aka NOT in a lane all the time, the shrine will be fully charged by the time your team has already moved away, pushed ahead, or fallen back. Therefore completely gone to waste. A slight charge up time scaling would be nice.

OR. As an alternative.

Since Bard's lane partner needs to be able to stay relatively safe for when he's gone, I'd think that the shrine should provide a small movespeed buff when approaching the shrine, slowly increasing with proximity.
