Why do we not have a permanent team death match mode where we can pick the champion we want?

The closet thing we have is ARAM, where you are given a random champion. You know what people love about aram? When they get a champion they actually know how to play or want to play. What is the issue with letting people pick the champion they want to play? My only assumption is Riot is worried that people will just play the "OP" champions. In ranked and competitive everyone plays the OP's, why not just give us a team death match mode where we can pick whatever champion we want and we each get bans? I play a lot of aram and there has been multiple times where my team mates will say "their comp is OP" or they will say a certain champion is OP which I don't agree with. Everyone has in their own mind which champions are OP in aram. As long as I get to play the champion I want, I don't care what champions the enemy team has.

I play a lot of different games and League of Legends is my favorite game to team fight, that is my favorite part of LoL, team fighting. It's just frustrating that I can play a lot of other games and pick the hero/champ I want and the weapons/items I want and I can team death match mode all day, but that doesn't exist in LoL. We only have normal, ranked, aram, 3v3 and ARAM. You can pick the champion you want in most of those modes but you have to go through the laning phase first so it isn't a team death match mode. Why do we not have a permanent team death match mode where we can pick the champion we want? I really don't get the logic. Why not at least give it a trial? Run ARAM and another team death match mode on the Howling Abyss where we can actually pick the champion we want and see how it goes. Do that many people not want us to pick the champions we want because they are so concerned that the enemy team will pick who they want that you people consider "OP"? I don't get it.

I personally love ARAM because it forces people to play more than one champion and it encourages the lack of a meta and stronger emphasis on improvisation. I mean, there are very few champs I dislike since I've played mostly ARAM and it's forced me to learn a multitude of champions I would otherwise probably never learn.

But they tried that sort of thing with Poro King, the problem is that a single lane deathmatch like that becomes very unbalanced when everyone can just pick into range and CC. Part of ARAM is forcing melees to work in your favour.

Maybe if it was a role draft to ensure some sort of deviation. With, opposite the free week, a weekly ban roster?

You have to understand that people are going to abuse a meta, otherwise.

Poro King sucks, it's not even a team death match mode, it's just a who can feed the poro king the fastest mode. It takes away a lot of the team fighting and just heavily relies on feeding the king and then giving him a snack which will do a lot of damage to the enemy team. I actually like modes like definitely not dominion and ascension, I just don't like poro king. If people want to be given random champions that is fine, I am not saying let's get rid of ARAM but I think people should be able to team death match mode in LoL and pick the champion they want.

Also I don't care if the enemy team picks champions who are ranged and have CC like Lux, Xerath, Zyra, Veigar, Brand, etc. Just let me pick whatever champion I want and I will be fine, and yeah people are going to abuse the meta. You see it happen in normal, ranked and competitive, so I don't get why its a big deal if it happens in a team death match mode.

I can see a demand for it, so I don't see why it shouldn't be considered. I don't like Poro King much at all. It feels too silly, like it's just ARAM but without any of the filters random puts on it.

I feel like this game mode could get stale, which might lend to why it hasn't been fielded yet.

I think Riot could come up with a good team death match mode, or just give us a mode exactly like ARAM but we can pick the champion we want. We are almost there, we do have a permanent team death match mode, but we are given a random champion. I think a lot of people will agree with me that League of Legends if the funnest game to team fight in. It just sucks playing aram and being given some random champion I have no interest in playing, if I could play champions I want, this would be awesome.

Actually i think a ban week overall could shake up the meta assuming they kept it 2 champs in each role. Sure itd bring ranked up to 30 owned champs but the lol roster could survive 20 bans thats not even 1/6 of the roster at this point. Hell even 1 champ per role wouldnt be bad. Otp might get screwed but itd be refreshing to see an op or 2 be free banned for the week. Maybe enabling this in ranked would be bad maybe just have it in aram and normal draft. Not blind or bots.

I think the problem with ARAM and other random champion modes is as follows:

There are two populations that come to these games. One group of people enjoy the randomness and enjoy the crazy outcome. The second group is ok with randomness as long as it is constrained to Lux, Sona and Nidalee (nida still good in aram?).

So there is a clash. Group 2 does whatever it can do just get the OP picks every time - whether it is Sona in URF, or Lux in Aram or whatever the game mode dictates is going to be the most obscene shit. Group 1 wants variety and also some of those picks are outright obscene in these constrained modes (sona in Urf is a good example) and they don't want to see the 10 OP picks 24/7.

Obviously there is a clash of populations. I wonder if we can separate the groups? Ofcourse there will be a problem if group 2 wants to play Lux in aram, but also attempt to force their opponents to play Udyr, through picking on group 1.

When you're talking about group 1, that is what I was talking about in my post that a lot of people have different ideas of what is OP in ARAM. There will be variety, for example I want to play swain, wukong, anivia, zed, sivir, twisted fate, ahri, etc. There are a lot of champions I would love to play that I am sure a lot of you guys have no interest in playing and would not consider OP. I think Riot should at least try it and see how it goes.

I think within the "I want play OP" group there should be some naturally emergent consensus on what OP is.

There should be within this group a small number of players with a different opinion on what OP is, but what they want out of the game still is inside the goals of the "I want play OP" group as opposed to "I want random fun".

Ranked with full champ roster to reward Group 1 for learning and adapting to ARAM's skillset. Normals with whitelist/blacklist to satisfy Group 2's desire for controlled randomness, doubling as a "training ground" for prospective ranked play.

You can't appease both groups with a single queue (See: complains about ARAM-optimized accounts), and you can't simply have two normal queues (e.g. Dominion blind pick vs. draft). Adding a new ranked queue addresses the distinct playerbase styles while providing incentives for following the spirit of All Random All Mid (plus the increased difficulty of a full champ roster).

The problem with this solution is that the people with "Aram accounts" will game the ranked mode.

Minarde1 votes

How would that happen if all champs are available in ranked?

The main issue with that solution is the consequences of "providing access to all champs." There's Riot's profits, player-account attachment, and other things to consider. Perhaps simply being locked behind summoner level would be enough to minimize the downsides, or have a "minimum required number of champs owned" (possibly higher than other ranked/draft queues) as well.

Have you ever played an aram against a team consisting of Lux,WarWick,Annie,Anivia,Veigar that game was extremely fun.
