Won 8 out of 10 games and was placed in BRONZE III
So.. I started playing ranked games recently. I won 8 out of 10 games and was placed in Bronze III with 0 LP. Any explanation for that?

You were Bronze last season.
I was placed in Bronze V last season with a worse score. Is it normal to go that low though?
Yes, it's normal. It also depends on your MMR last season or during preseason.
I, for instance, won 4 out of 10 games and got placed in Gold 3 because of my MMR last season & preseason.
So sad.. I struggled so much last season and couldn't win most of the placement games because there was always some sort of toxic player on my team. I was expecting to do way better with this score.. I played no games during the preseason cause I had to stop for a while. Had no idea last season would drag me down like this. :/
You could try Flex queue if you think your past is dragging you down too much. Flex is considered a new queue (why? I have no idea, since it's basically what we had last year), so they don't look at your past MMR.

You sure? Buddy went 6-4 got bronze 5 didnt do it in preseason either
I just went 9-1 in Flex (finished last night) and got Gold 3, higher than I've ever gotten in ranked before.
welcome to ranked friend

thanks! :) [slayer-jinx-catface]
You deserve atleast diamond, wow 8 out of 10 games, you must've only lost to challengers the last 2 games
Haha.. It's just that last season I struggled in placements and only won 4/10 and was Bronze I. This seasons placements went great and I won 8/10 so I was hoping for at least silver not a lower start than last season.
You have to think of a new season as a restart of the whole ladder. Everyone is shifted down. Dia + to plat and then everyone else accordingly. Had you went 10/10 you still would have most likely ended up in bronze just because of the previous seasons last recorded MMR, which in your case was bronze 2. Considering you only dropped 1 spot isn't actually that bad and a good thing. Usually you should expect to drop around a tier with a season reset. Good luck on the climb.
won 7 out of 10 on mine and im gold 4 but you were bronze last season so you will not get anything higher than what you made last season
I was placed in Bronze I last season with a worse score. Is it normal to go that low though?
It doesn't matter where you placed last season, even if you had a worse w/l in placements. Your rank is decided by where you end last season. If you ended in bronze, you are very likely to be in bronze 5 after your placements even if you did well.
So it is absolutely normal to be placed very low even after good placements.
Got it!
I actually made a video on this because I've seen so many posts on this topic. Hope you enjoy!
Helpful, thanks!

I watched the video, I believe you are wrong about climbing to your old Division with 50% winrate, assuming you were not very low on the ladder.
yes, for the first handful of games, you gain much more LP and lose, since your MMR is above your division when you are placed (by about 2-3 divisions I believe). But once you climb those 2-3 divisons, if you had 50% winrate, MMR did not change, so you no longer gain more LP than you lose, thus will stop climbing unless your winrate is above 50%. Do you have anything to indicate that it works the way you described, and not the way I described? And I understand that the main point of your video is not that. But if climbing does not work the way you describe (i.e. one wouldn't climb to and above old placement with 50% winrate, at least not in 100-200 games), then I'd rather wrong information not be spread.
My experience has been that if your MMR is equal to what is expected for your division you still typically will get slightly more LP for a win than a loss. It might only be 1-3 LP but that different does allow you to climb slowly.
You're right that eventually you LP gains will stagnate but it doesn't happen very quickly from my experience. Maybe I'm just lucky but I've never had my LP losses be equal to or greater than my LP gains, even when I had less than a 50% win rate. Since I made that video I went on a pretty bad losing streak and even though my MMR is trashed I still get way more LP for a win than a loss (and I have over 60 games played.)
This is primarily for bronze-gold. I have noticed people get much less LP at plat+.
I don't have access to huge amounts of data to prove my point if that's what you're looking for. All I have is anecdotal evidence based on my experiences and the experiences of others.
Nice thats rare to go up that much. I ended g3 im 2w 2l right now and i have a mix of plats silvers n golds on the teams im with
