[Suggestions] Improvements I'd Like To See - In-game and Client

This was formerly posted just before the new forum rolled out, so I'm just re-posting it. I'm hoping Riot will read this and take note of some of my suggestions.

I've only been playing League since the end of April, but in my time in the client and on the Fields of Justice, I've noticed some really annoying and sometimes downright confounding issues that I'd like to highlight. I understand it takes a lot to implement changes, so please just consider these suggestions, and I hold no expectations that any of them will actually be implemented, though I'd be very happy to see they were. If I notice anything else, I will update this post.

I have also made suggestions for the client. You can read them here.

In-game

  1. Make in-game shop navigable by keyboard. It would be much faster to shop this way and reduce click counts. I hate clicking more than I need to.

  2. If a person is typing during a match, it would be nice to see a little icon to notify us, like a [speech bubble](https://i.imgur.com/etnMvcm.png); (sorry about the low-res,) so we don't think they're being oblivious, (arguable that it's the same as typing), lagging, or both. I doubt one could be shown for lag, but that would be nice too, if it could be done. This would also be good for people that connected to a match late, so those of us with ethics know to ignore them until they've caught up in levels. It could disappear when they are within three or so levels of their teammates. Of course, some people are just cunning opportunists, i.e., "free kills(!)," and this won't stop them, but it would help the more honorable summoners. This feature has been around since Quake 3 Arena.

  3. Add champion names alongside summoner names in obituary messages in the in-game chat log. Then we won't need to check the scoreboard to see who's dead. They show up when you ping directly on someone, so why not when they die? This will also make the tribunal's job a little easier, as you can tell exactly who was killed when and the players' reactions to it.

  4. Similar to spectator mode, I'd like to see the ultimate ability in teammate HUD during a match instead of a green light, that until very recently, was mysterious to me. This would cut down on dependency on using chat, and summoner spell cooldowns should be displayed as well.

  5. A second ping menu, [as discussed in this thread](http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/bmFNEAcu-i-think-this-may-solve-peoples-problem-with-smart-pings), would substantially cut down on chat. This is especially important when not everyone on your team speaks the same language.

  6. I know there is a cap on ping spamming, but I think the cap should be lowered to three pings in the scope of time currently designated. Three pings is the maximum anyone should need to express urgency. Any more, and that person is just being obnoxious and rude, and people do spam pings when they've been muted, just to antagonize a fellow player. This is the methodology I typically apply to my pings:

    • 1 ping - please take notice of this. I usually use a single ping for pointing out amassing friendly or enemy minion waves, ward locations, or traps, such as Teemo shrooms.
    • 2 pings - Hey listen! This is important. Cause one ping wasn't enough. I typically use two pings to signal an objective (typically a tower) is being or will be threatened soon.
    • 3 pings - this is a critical order. You're in danger or the match is at stake! For when the enemy is headed to 3+v1 your split pusher (because they just wiped out the team or are stupid enough to overcommit their forces,) a backdoor or baron attempt is in progress, or you've overextended in pursuit of a kill and are~~~~ possibly being baited or distracted.
  7. There should be an option to smartcast smart pings, much like spells. I know you can assign smart pings to hotkeys, but you still have to click the mouse to cast the ping. It should be activated on key release, just like many abilities.

Client/pre-game

  1. Make client completely navigable by keyboard (Tab, Space, Enter, Arrows, Esc, any appropriate hotkeys). I should be able to do everything with the keyboard if I so desire. You know, just like I can navigate most programs and my OS with a keyboard. I understand certain parts are navigable (e.g., I can navigate to the chat input dialog with Tab in Champion Select,) but there's no outline highlighted of the object focused in the client like there are in most programs. This is such a basic feature. I don't understand why it's not implemented.

  2. Make enough space for the buddy list to fit without having to be on top of client information so it doesn't have to be opened and closed. By default, I shouldn't have to click to show it when I log in. It should only need to be clicked to hide. In that case, the client information beneath would then expand to cover the entire window. There is no reason it should obscure anything at any time.

  3. The buddy list should not take me off Away on what seems to be a random basis. If I set my status to Away, it should stay as so until I begin a match, or mark myself as Available. I get a lot of game invites that go unanswered because I'm actually AFK or unavailable and the client sets me as Available. Just because I'm online, doesn't mean I can play a match. Maybe I'm on in case one of my friends wants to talk about something.

  4. Make the Cancel button when in queue red again. I blends in too well with the new color scheme. It should stick out. The Home button should also stick out, make it green. I understand the design aesthetics, but I think that should sometimes be broken for even more clarity and contrast. Also, make the gold in the gold game notice icon stick out. It's too similar to the exclamation point and that blends in too well, but this is getting really nitpicky.

  5. Allow mastery pages and rune page orders to be rearranged, so if I add another page and want to keep things organized, I shouldn't have to redo all the pages past that point. That's really annoying and tedious.

  6. Allow for Item Sets and Rune Page templates so we can start a new build with some things preloaded. I'm tired of having to click and drag many of the same items for different builds, particularly starting items such as potions, Doran's items, ~~machete~~ jungle items, wards, trinkets, etc., as well as finishers, such as enchantments and elixirs. Mastery templates would be nice too, but since you can use your scroll wheel to edit them, are relatively effortless to make and should not take priority over the former. Also, allow for copying an item set to another item set or champion.

  7. The honor notification no longer disappears after a brief delay. Please revert back to this. It still works with friend sign-on notifications. Why add more clicks? An option to set notification persistence times is another solution.

  8. Allow players to choose their ward skin in champion select. Although I possess none, it doesn't make any sense that you have to select your ward skin in the Riot Store.

  9. I would like to see an option to lock-in roles in draft mode, similar to what there is in team builder. I have had too many occasions where people don't call a role and there's confusion or two or three people are fighting over who gets mid lane. This puts me in a sour mood for the upcoming match. You could then opt to swap lanes like you can champs, though this doesn't stop people from just ignoring the lock-ins and going where ![DrMundo](https://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/16.14.1/img/champion/DrMundo.png) pleases. It would also help when not all teammates speak the same language.

  10. I want an option to disable friend of friend invites, please. I'm tired of getting random invites from people I don't know. If someone wants to invite me to a match, they should message me first. I find it extremely rude and irritating.

Postgame

  1. Add a "Worthy Opponent" honor to the honor system to be awarded to those opponents that gave you a good fight and you consider your match or better. I find far too many people giving Honorable Opponent honors to people who just performed well in match or gave the team or a particular player trouble. Until I read the page that explained the honor system, I was guilty of this myself.
*I haven't seen so much of this recently, but I still think this would be a good addition.

  2. Add a reports category to report illegal bots. They have especially become a problem in Dominion, and it is unclear what category they are supposed to be reported under. I had to play 20 or so matches before I started seeing all humans in Dominion matches. The average player is not going to possess the patience to tolerate that before seeing matches with all humans. Add a category in reports to report honor trading as well, cause it's unclear what to categorize them as. Most summoners have probably not read the honors page and probably never will.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

About the chat bubble, that would be awful.

You won't be able to type before ganks anymore.

Hit P to open up the shop without clicking it.

I think this is a great list and all of these should be implemented (except for the 3 pings only)!

Sometimes there are slow people in my match who target the wrong person, and even when I ping to target someone they don't do it so I just spam target to tell them who they should be targeting, like the 100 health veigar that no one is paying any attention to.
