Suggestion: Add a "Random" option to dynamic queue

Laughing Fish··18 votes·1,718 views

I have see a lot of threads demonstrating people's disdain of "Fill" meaning support 90%+ of the time. But fill, by its very nature, is filling whichever role is needed the most. So I propose that a "Random" option be added as well, which would automatically select a role for you. This would allow the variety that many players crave, but would still keep fill as an option for fast queue times. Thought? Comment below! https://media.giphy.com/media/FmijXcVr53g2I/giphy.gif

WE WERE ON A BREAK!

I'll bite, the idea sounds good, but the issue is that people are playing more towards Top, Mid, ADC, or Jungle for kills than wanting to be Support. Wish Riot has some data or record that shows the number of people that plays each role as primary.

well .. I expect Riot hat that statistic ... and as fill almost always results in support .. i'd expect support is at ... 10% at best, more likely at 5% with mid and top around ...35-40%

If you think about it, players want to be able to get kills when playing their champions since they started to join and play League. Whether in Top, Mid, ADC, or Jungle, they want to feel empowered of beating an enemy and customized types of items to use. With Supports, players sees them as just helpers who has to secure kills for the ADC, ward around the map for any ganks, and buy almost halve of the items to support their teams. I'm surprised that people are now waking up the fact that not many people play supports as than they expected because back when Team Builder existed, if you pick any roles besides Support you'll be join with the captain and/or a second person and wait a long time for a Support to join, but if you pick Support you'll instantly fill the group for the match to start.

Sorry I don't understand your point ... isn't that exactly the same, we are actually exeriencing with support/secondary support/fill?

My point is that people are just starting to complain about Supports now when in the past, people ignored it. I haven't play the game for a while now, but ever since the Dynamic Queue released, people has been complaining over long queue time. They decided to go Support and/or Fill as their secondary to try and they see that it's easy to be in a group than any other roles in a snap.

well the old system was simple .. you queued up in single queue for normals or rankeds without any role distribution ... and someone was forced to play support.

Now you aren't forced to play support, but you complain if you have to wait for someone, who is willing to play support ....

No wonder why Supports get no love and appreciation. Except of course to be a running joke when it's about the ADC being so good.

Anraton1 votes

right.. now you aren't forced to play support... but you have to wait for someone willing to do so ... and as fill meens also willing to play support ....

This is actually pretty brilliant. I think it might not be a huge bonus bc there are lots of people who wouldn't use it bc it wouldn't speed up their que time, but it would keep people who were interested in playing a variety of roles playing support occasionally and that would help.

Don't know which poll answer is yes and which means no, they both seem like a yes to me.

Anraton1 votes

what is the expected result? it won't really change anything on the queue system itself, only that you don't really know which role you get .... and the queue times won't be affected by this changes ...

I have seen a lot of people complaining about how Fill is almost always support. There are plenty of people who would like to be able to use fill to play a wide variety of roles, but putting fill every game just means that you are a support main. A random role would allow people to play a wide variety.

I'll do a size reduced example with mid, adc and support ....

lets imagine, your queue consists of 4x adc/mid, 1x adc/support, 1x mid/fill ...

now the system is designed, to get you out of the queue and into a game as fast as possible ... now try to distribute those 6 players ....

as long as support is the least wanted role, fill is equal to support and queue times will be high if you pick 2 specific lanes that don'T contain support.

so now ... tell me how you start the game without distribute the fill to support .... its the same problem as secondary support results in being distributed to support .... as long as the playerbase doesn't want to play support but some sort of carry champion, the problem won't change ...

The system just has to choose the random role before going into queue.

Anraton2 votes

a random role .. means in 1 of 5 cases you get support ... the other 4 cases are distributed to the other 4 roles ... well that's more or less like we have now as most people don't pick fill any more because it results in support to often ... means... nothing will change as we are still short of players willing to play support.

Sure. But we agree to have long timers. Not to only have a redundant, monotone. Last season I filled everytime, and I still do in normals. Result? I (used to) get support 35% of the time. 35% instead of 20% which would be 1/5. Not 95%+ as in DQ.

Dynamic queue forces people to choose beforehand, so no one decides based on other people's preferences, no one is forced to obey by being last pick, no one sees a cool comp opportunity... That's why supports are gone and fill has become monotone.

You seem to be missing the point. There would be more people on the support role. Actually most of us avoid fill and support as secondary because you almost always get it. With the option to have a random role, all those who avoided the fill option for the reason I mentionned will have a chance to play support. 1/5 is better than 0.

I understand your point ... i only don't think that there are enough people who would choose fill to get rid of that problem

You're oversimplifying the issue. In the current system there is no option that gives support some percentage of the time that is not the majority. Players who would be willing to play support some games, but don't want to play it every game stop picking fill bc it gives them support so often, and then you remove a support player from the potential pool. If random picks a role to pretend to be (so when you que it picks 1 of the 4 roles that aren't your primary and treats the random secondary as that role) then it will sometimes pick support but not always. The players then occasionally play support, but not every time so they do not decide to stop using the random que. The players are not in the support pool every game, but they also do not quit playing support entirely. Therefore, in the long run it increases the probability that one of the roles qued for by a player will be support, which actually does change things. Random as proposed here is not the same as fill. You are applying the concept as if it is, and that is why you are coming up with a problem. Apply random as a random role (just one, not fill) rather than as fill and you'll see that it does change things.

Random will be the new Fill of old Support..
