Rito at it again (ranked rant)

So I finally clawed my way out of provisionals and lo and behold 5/10 games won = bronze 5 and 3/10 = silver 5? My fiance and I played the same games, for the most part, save for two which I won where he lost the two that he played... HOW THE HELL IS THIS BALANCED?! Who the hell came up with this ranking system and what type of meds do you need to fix your brain? I have been playing league for a long time, and never have I felt more insulted than to be dragged back into bronze 5 after busting my ass trying to get out of it. I understand that you can pick up the slack for others, but when you have an afk every single match and no one can get along because of toxic players who just stop trying or feed because they got butthurt. It is not fair to anyone in the community who is trying their best only to be sent flying back into the pits of bronze hell. I have spoken with many people who share the same view and had the same thing happen to them. I have to spend weeks, even months trying to get out of this place and the toxicity has not changed one single bit, even with these new rules, people still go afk, they still leave, they still disconnect, they're still immature children so what exactly has been fixed with this? All the effort I put into learning, practicing, even reading up on how to best counter someone is for nothing it seems. The pure lack of care is stifling and rather unfair to anyone who isn't a raging buffoon who actually TRIES in ranked. My questions are: What exactly has been accomplished by punishing players who have bad connection? Why are good players punished because of other people's attitudes? Why is the fault of an individual still harming the team? Is there any future plans to better the community without punishing the decent people and finally getting rid of the trolls?

You have a whole season to get where you belong, placements aren't important at all.

6-4 here and bronze 5 :(

Basically what they did is separated so called pro Platinum+ players from the rest even more ... chances of getting out of Bronze are pretty much ZERO as I spent months last season bouncing between bronze 5 and 1 before giving ranked a big middle finger in the ass ... tried this season and it is even worse ... so gg .. riot ... after almost 5 years playing this game I am closer than ever in closing the game forever ... do the HARD MMR RESET FFS

If you ended the previous season in bronze V you got placed lower than bronze 5 (negative mmr) if you were in last season and lost games at 0lp bronze V your mmr was so bad that not even winning ten games would help you escape

Placements, provisionals, and promos all have serious drawbacks when used to represent individual skill in a team game. They serve as artificial gates to a players advancement, placing a higher emphasis on those matches than others. On it's own, that's not a bad thing. Increasing the stakes to increase user investment is a tried and true technique across every single medium of entertainment.

The problem comes from the fact that your individual rating isn't exclusively in your control. If the system were solely about average play over a number of games, the impact of the elements OUTSIDE of your control are significantly lessened. MMR was significantly better as a gauge of player skill than the League system, and Riot is fully aware of this. It's why, internally, they still use MMR for matchmaking.

Why switch the system at all then? Player perceptions. A player who is Gold 2 with 1800 MMR is better than someone who is Gold 1 with 1700 MMR, and both are better than the Platinum V player with 1675 MMR, but the League system doesn't represent this. It uses the "carrot on a stick" concept, dangling rewards in front of the first two players for no other reason to keep them playing. Why? It's called Ego Depletion. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ego_depletion If you mentally exhaust yourself grinding ranks, you're less likely to have the self control left to not spend 10 bucks when they drop a new skin.

I was Gold V and got placed Gold IV.

I kind of wanted to get a bit lower than gold to experience the climb.

I wonder why if the ladder system is heavily based on Starcraft one (tiers and such) they would separate each tier further into 5 sub-tiers?

Back in Season 1, bronze was around 800 elo/mmr and pro players were around 1800+ and everyone started season at 1200 and had chance to go up or down. With the system right now bronze stays around 800 and highest tier is around 3000+ and the mmr is not reset at the start of season which makes climb from bronze to any decent tier similar to solo climb of the tallest mountain peak on Earth without any equipment

as I see it. You have exceptional opportunity to learn to carry your games. but that means to play NoobCleaving champs like Yi, Trynde, Veigar, Rengar and many many others.

This is your chance to "dont give a fuck" you have nowhere to fall. Try things.

Though if you are looking for reasonable game where things make sense, you wont find it. YOU have to put sense in these games.

Good luck
