Why Am I So Bad?

Let me begin with an interesting anecdote: I've been playing League of Legends the same number of years as Faker. He is the best player in the world and I am the worst player in the world! Funny juxtaposition am I right? Anyways, I haven't been playing as much as him and I hardly played at all until this past year I've started up again. But I've found that I'm not improving what so ever. I have studied countless guides on the game and the champions, watched hours and hours of play-troughs, spotlights, and professional tournaments, and I've even tried to get my friends to coach me but my labor has proved fruitless. No matter what champion I practice with and use, I find that I'm just abysmal. Now keep in mind I play other video games (I'm no stranger to them) and I don't want to sound my own horn but I'm very good and almost any other except League. Is it possible that the synapses in my brain will never allow my skill to develop in this one video game?

Sincerely, A tilted League Player

hmm people think natural ability and talent dont matter ...

it does.

also faker plays this game im sure 14 hrs a day and eats sleeps and makes love to league ... it is his life , his world , his PROFESSION ...

you clearly ( i hope ) dont play this game 14+ hrs a day. there is a lot that goes into being on of the best players in the world.

yet when it comes to something like a professional sport. for example lets use FOOTBALL

no matter how much you practice and work out... that wont on its own make you to be a pro football player.

me at 5'8'' 185 lbs playing middle linebacker even though i could bench 405 and squat 600lbs and had a 4.7 40yard dash wasnt gonna make me into a pro football player cuz i wasnt 6'3'' 250lbs who benced 500lbs, squat 750lbs and run a 40 in 4.3 seconds

they are just more gifted and talented...

When you say you aren't improving whatsoever; what metrics are you using? Winrate? Cs/min? Your gut feelings?

Because the metrics you use do make an important difference. For instance, winrate is probably one of the worst metrics you can use; it adjusts as you adjust. One of the best things you can do is a post-game analysis where you look at the choices you made and figure was it a good choice or bad choice? Did I execute well? Did they execute poorly? I've had many bad plays work out because my enemies misplayed. Conversely, I've made many more plays where it was a good call but terrible execution.

Also, what roles and how many champions do you play?

For highest winrate, you should play about 1-3 champions. I play Hecarim because he is a very planning-oriented jungler who requires 0 mechanics. When I try things like Rek'sai I am total trash.

Finally, do you understand the macro game? This is very important for climbing. Understanding how to build waves, pressure lanes, "set up" for baron and dragon, and when you ahead the ways in which your team can lose.(e.g. throwing at baron or splitting up.) Also, when you are behind, knowing how they can screw up is very important. For instance, if the only way you can win is by praying their adc gets caught, you can go wait in a brush and see if their adc will come. It usually won't work, but 1 in 5 times it will, and you will pull games out that you should never have won.

League is a very hard game all things considered. It is not for everybody. If you find you don't enjoy it, don't play it. If you find at some point, you are "capped" then accept that and just have fun in the bracket you are in.

Thank you very much for these tips and thought provoking questions. Assuming these questions aren't all hypothetical, the answer to your question what is not improving is: EVERYTHING. I kid you not each point you mention is something I can't seem to grasp. I cannot seem to do anything correctly in this video game. It has to have do something with my analytical and logical thinking.

This game takes an insane amount of dedication to be even remotely good. Its taken me like 3 years just to reach plat 4. Some people are just really good naturally or have friends to teach them everything, but most people will take like a year or 2 to get gold and another year or 2 for plat and another year or 2 for diamond. Just kinda how it is unless ur a rap god like faker.
