Proposed change to Garen
Hello. I have an idea about a change to Garen that could alleviate some of his gameplay issues in the current state of the game. It is no secret that Garen is on the weaker end of the champion pool, and the reason why is clear: he is outdated. However, unlike other outdated champions, Garen's kit isn't entirely out of style. I feel that the only ability that should be changed is his Q, Decisive Strike.
Currently Garen's Q ability offers him temporary movement speed, a lengthy silence, and a one-time cleanse for slows affecting him. This allows him to temporarily shut down an opponent that relies on spells and serves as a mediocre escape/chasing ability. This ability is Garen's only extra mobility, and can be shut down by re-applying a slow to him or using crowd control on him. Area slows invalidate this ability almost completely.
The change I am proposing to Garen is a new ability to replace Decisive Strike, why will go by the same name and fit the same theme. In place of a sprint into a silence, Garen should have a free-range skillshot dash attack in the form of a charging shoulder slam. This ability should deal damage to and stun the champion it hits and the champions in a small radius around it. This new ability would still fit the theme of charging forward to strike enemies where it hurts, and it would give purpose to Garen's huge pauldrons that he received with his visual update (football skin, anyone?). The ability would help alleviate Garen's sub-par late game and give him more resistance to kiting, while still allowing for counter-play by dodging the ability or having it body-blocked by a teammate. If this proposed Q was to be implemented, there are some factors to it that could be decided on to balance it. Whether it allows Garen to pass through walls and whether or not it smashes through minions are examples of this.
Garen has been available for a long time without major changes, and his value in gameplay has decreased significantly since his prime. I believe my proposal would serve to help him back into competitive play, and make League of Legends a more balanced game.
Let me know what you think about this idea in the poll. Thanks for reading.
